Difference between Scanner and Mobile Measurements

✓ Ability to scan and measure coverage/quality for all ✓ Mobile only measures signals from the cells that the
supported carriers/frequencies (operator/technology system has informed / ordered the mobile through the
benchmarking with 1 device) neighbor list or via the “measurement control” message

✓ Used for model tuning of coverage prediction when ✓ Mobile can make application testing (voice, video, file
building a new network (CW) transfer, web browsing, Youtube streaming, Facebook,
etc.)
✓ Interference measurements, band clearance, UL
interference, frame timing, frequency error ✓ Mobile can analyse signaling and measure parameters
related to NW implementation
✓ During optimization, used to identify and understand
reasons for peculiar behavior discovered during field
measurements done by mobile (missing neighbor, pilot
pollution, etc.)

Why frequency scanning

✓ Detecting interference from other sources and out of band
(Spectrum Analysis mode, Band Scan), spectrum
clearance
✓ Coverage prediction during network build up (CW
measurements for network planning tools) for outdoor
and indoor
✓ BTS-eNodeB frequency error detection , frame timing
detection (Time offset)
✓ Co-channel and adjacent channel interference detection
✓ CINR measurement per each sub band (PRB) of a carrier
(LTE) for interference detection
✓ Simultaneous WB and NB measurements (LTE) for
interference analysis
✓ UL interference measurements (Wide Band DC required)
✓ Pilot Pollution detection (no dominance)
✓ Missing neighbor detection/Neighbor list planning &
planning handover zones
✓ Cross feeder analysis, overshooting
✓ MIMO performance prediction
✓ Benchmarking measurements between operators and
technologies

coverage, performance
Customer need Solution Benefit
✓ Operator needs to benchmark the ✓ Customer purchased Nemo Invex II ✓ One test drive gives all needed
quality of their network in for benchmarking all technologies data with required accuracy
comparison to competition and for all operators in one drive

✓ Results need to be absolute ✓ To close out performance issues

minimizing the impact that could coming from devices, operator
come from using phones and connects 2 scanners to the
differences in their performance measurement setup

✓ The scanners provide more +

accurate picture of coverage and
interference in the network
✓ Smartphone level accuracy
is +/- 4-5 dB in idle mode (8-
9dB when in active mode,
i.e. application in use, due to
additional interference)

✓ Scanner level accuracy is +/-

1 dB in all conditions

LTE measurements
✓ Basic LTE KPI’s
✓ Reference signal
measurements (RSRP,
RSRQ, CINR per TX
antenna port)
✓ Sync signal measurements
(RP, RQ, CINR)
✓ Cell frame timing
✓ Cyclic Prefix
✓ Delay spread
✓ LTE Measurements RSRP and

LTE MIMO measurements
✓ When TX0 is sending Reference
Signal, TX1 is not transmitting.
When TX1 is sending Reference

✓ Thus, Reference Signal

measurements (Power, Quality)
can be done by a single receiver

✓ E-NodeB’s transmission power

level and quality of each MIMO TX
port (2 or 4 TX ports) can be
measured by a SISO or MIMO DC

✓ For 2x2 MIMO measurements,

where Condition Number and Rank
Estimation are required, a dual
receiver with a MIMO antenna are
needed.

LTE MIMO measurements
✓ MIMO measurements with SISO DC
and single RX antenna:
✓ TX0/1/2/3-RX0 signal paths
can be measured
independently for level and
quality (2x1/4x1 MIMO)
✓ MIMO CN and Rank estimation
cannot be measured, since
