Standard Five pupil aces CSEC Math - Grade A

What some secondary school pupils

spend five years trying to achieve, SEA
student Keziah John has attained in five
months.

The 11-year-old pupils of Specialist

Learning Centre in St. Augustine wrote
the Caribbean Secondary Education
Certificate (CSEC) Math examination in
January this year and attained a Grade
One.

She achieved a Grade A in all three

components of the exam- knowledge,
comprehension and proficiency.

Keziah said she started preparing for the

exam just five months ago. When she received her results online last Friday she was
dumbfounded.

“When I saw the results I could not believe it,” the soft-spoken student told the Express.

She said preparing for the CSEC exam while at the same time preparing for the SEA
exam in May 4 this year was a little difficult, but she was undaunted by the task.

“It took a lot of sacrifice but I'm glad that I was able to succeed. I actually did the exam
for experience, just to know what it was like,” she said.

Having aced CSEC Math, Keziah said she plans to attain 100 per cent in SEA
Mathematics.“I'm continuously practicing the Math, Language Arts and Creative
writing,” she said.

She said she hope to pass for her first choice- Holy Name Convent, Port of Spain.

Her mother, Caron John, and Math tutor Noble Felice, beamed with pride as she spoke.

“I am really proud of you beyond words Keziah. Everybody in the family knew you could
do it, and now you can do better and more things in the future,” John said.

Felice said he saw Keziah's potential to write CSEC Math and brought it to her mother's
attention.

“As it stands she's the only girl to go from SEA to CSEC and to attain a Grade One with
distinction, without going into secondary school.” he said.

While still undecided about her career choice, Keziah said she has her eyes set on
becoming an actress, and she loves theatre and acting.
Girl waiting to write SEA passes CSEC
An 11-year-old girl, still waiting
to write this year’s Secondary
Examination Assessment (SEA),
sat the Caribbean Secondary
Education Certificate exams and
actually passed.

Keziah John, a Standard Five

student at the Specialist
Learning Centre, received her
online results last Friday.

John’s advice to her peers

yesterday was: “Though it is
bigger than you still do it.”

In a brief interview, John said

she was still in shock.
Caron John, left, congratulates her 11-year-old daughter, Keziah who

May.

Keziah said a private tutor pushed and trained her.

“I didn’t think I could do it, I am going to do Add Maths after and I am sitting SEA on
May 4,” she added.

John said her first choice for SEA is Holy Name Convent in Port-of-Spain.

She said though she still has many choices she would like to be an actress.

“If I can do it then another child can do it,” Keziah said.

Keziah’s mother, Caron John, said she knew her daughter was talented.

“She was always incredible in Maths. It took five months because she has to balance
SEA as well,” she said.

Caron quoted Philippians in the Bible: “You can do anything through Christ who
strengthens me. Her teacher called me and told me check online. When I saw it I
printed it out,” she said.

“I am thankful to God,” an elated Caron said.
