The ignition must be in the "run" position.

Find the programming connector that is hanging off a wire harness on the upper left side of the trunk by the left hand
hinge. Its a 2-pin male connector with two black-with-white-stripe wires.

When you short these two pins together with a screwdriver or shorting plug, the RCDLR will cycle the lock and trunk
solenoids to confirm it is ready. This connector will need to remain shorted until your are finished programming the
remotes.

Pressing any key (only once) on either remote will program that remote to the RCDLR. You will need to reprogram both
remotes once you begin the procedure. The RCDLR will only remember the last two (2) remotes programmed. Any
transmitter codes that were previously programmed have been erased.

The locks will cycle lock-unlock after each remote is programmed to confirm that it registered it’s signal. Once the
shorting plug is removed the alarm will sound for 1 second - this indicates that the system is ready. The system will not
operate if the shorting plug is not removed.

To disable the automatic unlock-in-park feature:

REPROGRAMMING RKE MODULE

You will need a Tech-2 Scan Tool to re-program the keyless entry system. The procedure listed below is for the 1999 Seville, but should be very similar to the other
models.

When re-programming, it is always a good idea to replace the batteries in the RKE key fob.

IMPORTANT
The order that the transmitters are programmed is important, the first transmitter programmed will be transmitter #1, and the second transmitter programmed will
be transmitter #2. You can program up to four transmitters. Additional transmitters are available that do not have a number on t hem. Any previously programmed
transmitters which were not included in the programming will no longer function with this receiver. The number on the transmitters are for reference only, #2 can be
programmed as #1 or vice versa. Use care to program the transmitters correctly.

Connect a scan tool.

Select diagnostics.

Select body code.

Select body style code.

Select other.

Select RFA.

Select special functions. h

Select F0 program key fobs.

Choose the fob number that you wish to program.

Follow screen prompts to complete programming procedure.

Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter being programmed, the door locks will cycle. This should take about 15 seconds.

Continue on to the next transmitter and repeat until all of the transmitters are complete.

Exit the RKE programming and disconnect the scan tool.

Cycle the ignition and test the transmitters for proper operation
1. Switch ignition to the ON position (don’t crank engine).
2. Locate the Programming Connector at the back end of the trunk base (not
the trunk lid) directly below the trunk latch mechanism. It is a plastic
connector with one wire leading up to it. The connector is not plugged into
anything. You will have to pull back trim to access the connector.
3. The programming connector should have one terminal. Ground this terminal
to a suitable location (bolt, antenna, etc.). Within 2 seconds of grounding
the programming connector, the door locks will automatically cycle (lock then
unlock) to indicate initiation of programming mode. Make sure the programming
connector stays grounded throughout the programming.
4. Press the UNLOCK button on the first transmitter twice (pause one second
between presses). In response, the door locks will cycle once within 2
seconds. Your new remote has been accepted and all existing remote codes have
been erased.
5. If a second transmitter is to be programmed (including your old one),
press the UNLOCK button on the second transmitter twice pausing one second
between presses. In response, the door locks will cycle once within 2
seconds. If only one remote will be used, repeat step 4 with the same new
remote (the receiver needs to acknowledge a total of two transmissions, even
if from the same remote).
6. Remove the jumper wire from the Keyless Programming Connector and switch
ignition OFF.

1) Turn ignition ON

2) Connect a jumper wire from pin 1 of the DLC (Data link Connector located at
bottom edge drivers side under dash) Pin 1 is the upper left pin. Take other end of
jumper wire to ground. The door locks will LOCK then UNLOCK to verify system
is in program mode

3) Press any transmitter button. Doors will LOCK then UNLOCK to verify.

4) Repeat step 3 for any additional transmitters.

5) Remove jumper wire. Turn ignition OFF.

6) Verify transmitter functions.

(1) Open the driver's door and leave it open during the programming process.
(2) Move the mechanical door lock lever on the driver's door to the LOCK position.
(3) Insert the ignition key and turn it to the RUN position. (Do not start the vehicle.)
(4) After turning the ignition key to the Run position aim the transmitter at the
receiver and press the LOCK (right) button for 5 seconds. Once the receiver accepts
the programming the door will unlock.
(5) If additional transmitters are to be used on the vehicle each must be
programmed during the programming sequence. (Up to 4 transmitters can be
programmed to a vehicle) To program additional transmitters: Return the
mechanical door lock lever on the driver's door to the LOCK position and aim the
next transmitter at the receiver and press the LOCK (right) button for 5 seconds.
Again when the receiver accepts the programming the door will unlock. Repeat step
5 until all transmitters have been programmed.
(6) When all transmitters have been programmed to the receiver, the ignition must
be turned off and back on within 20 seconds after programming the last transmitter.
When this is done, only the transmitters that were programmed to the vehicle
during this procedure will operate the locks.

A Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Programming Procedures Card (Publication No. 81-170-00011) is
being provided with this Technical Service Bulletin to simplify RKE transmitter programming on 1999 -
2002 North American vehicles. Additional copies of the RKE publication, 81-170-00011 (Fig. 1), can be
ordered from DDS Distribution Services, LTD. Their number is 1-300-890-4038.

NOTE: THE RECENTLY RELEASED MILLER SPECIAL TOOL, "RF DETECTOR NO. 9001",
SHOULD BE USED TO DETERMINE IF THE TRANSMITTER IS WORKING BEFORE
BEGINNING PROGRAMMING PROCEDURES. THE RF DETECTOR INDICATES IF THE
TRANSMITTER IS WORKING, NOT IF IT IS PROGRAMMED TO A VEHICLE.

Mitsubishi notes?
You need to get to the keyless receiver, which is located behind the rear, left-side (driver's-side) panel, that is, the large panel which surrounds the
left rear speaker. The whole procedure will take most people around one and a half hours, including re-assembly. (For those who don't want to do
it themselves, any car audio installation shop can easily do it.)

Here's the procedure:

1. Remove the hatch cover.

2. Remove the rear seat as follows:

Pull on the two handles at the forward edge of the seat bottom. This will unlatch it so you can lift out the whole seat bottom. Remove the left side
rear seatback, by undoing the two 12-mm bolts, which are at its base.

3. Remove the left rear panel as follows:

Unscrew the rearmost screw on the scuff plate (the plastic strip that sits over the rocker panel.) Unscrew the single screw on the cover over the
rear seatbelt retractor, and lift off this cover. Remove all the screws holding on the large panel. The only tricky part is getting to the two screws at
the rear seatbelt retractor - there is not much space, so you will need a short screwdriver. I used a long Phillips screwdriver bit with a socket and it
was easy. You don't need to take off any seatbelts - just let the panel hang with the seatbelt still through it.
4. The receiver is the large box forward of the speaker. There is a 3-position switch on it marked SET 1 - FIX - SET 2. You will find it easier to
access this switch if you remove the receiver from the car body. Move the switch to either SET position (the two SET positions are in case you
have two transmitters with different codes), so that the receiver will learn the new code. Press either button on the new transmitter. Move the
switch back to FIX, to retain the code. Test the new remote operation - it should work.

5. Reassemble everything, making sure that the antenna connector is snug in the receiver. You're done.

From some forum somewhere?

I have a 94 Montero LS with a TRW keyless remote. I programmed it today, 10-6-01. The receiver was located up under the
dash next to the clutch pedal. The unit measured 2" x 4" x 1/2" thick. There were two plugs to the unit, one having 4 wires
and one having two wires each. Disconnect the plug with two wires and short the two terminals on the receiver. (I used a pair
of needle nose pliers.) At the same time press the lock button on the transmitter and hold it down for about 10-15 seconds.
Done!

There are four different programming commands when setting up or verifying your remote transmitter, they are:
Add mode, used to add a remote to your Prius that is not currently registered.
Rewrite mode, used to erase all previously registered remotes and allow you to begin again the programming process.
Confirmation mode, used to verify the number of remotes that are already programmed in your Prius.
Prohibit mode, to prohibit all remotes from operating the door locks.
All four modes start with these instructions:
1) Make sure that the key is not in the ignition, the doors are unlocked, and the driver's door is open.
2) Very quickly, without turning, insert and remove key from the ignition twice. (leave key out)
3) Close and open the driver door twice. (leave door in open position)
4) Again, insert key into the ignition and remove it. This time only once. (leave key out)
5) Close and open the driver door twice, then close the door.
6) Insert key into the ignition and leave it in the LOCK position.
Add mode:
A1) Turn the key to "ON" for 1 second, then turn back to "LOCK".
A2) Remove the key.
A3) You’ll hear the doors "LOCK" and 1 second later "UNLOCK" (just listen)
A4) On your remote, press the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 1 to 1½ seconds, then let go.
A5) On your remote, IMMEDIATELY press unlock by itself.
A6) You’ll get one of three responses:
R1) You’ll hear the doors "LOCK", then "UNLOCK" once. The remote is accepted. If you want to program another remote, immediately
proceed to step A4 with your second remote, otherwise open the driver’s door and the remote is registered.
R2) You’ll hear the doors "LOCK", then "UNLOCK" twice. Either you didn’t use the same remote in steps A4 and A5 (not likely), or this
remote was already registered.
The timing was off when you pressed the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously and then UNLOCK by itself. Immediately press the two
buttons together and the unlock by itself again. Keep trying until you get the locks to signal once that you have been successfu l.
Then if you have another remote to program, quickly press its' buttons as before, until you hear the locks signal once. When you are
finished, open and close the driver door to lock in the programming.
R3) If no response, go back to step 1 near the beginning of these instructions.
B. Rewrite mode:
B1) Turn the key to "ON" for 1 second, turn back to "LOCK" for 1 second, then back to "ON" for 1 second, and finally back to "LO CK"
for 1 second
B2) Remove the key.
B3) You’ll hear the doors "LOCK", 1 second later "UNLOCK", 1 sec., "LOCK", 1 sec. "UNLOCK". (just listen)
B4) On your remote, press the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 1 to 1½ seconds, then let go.
B5) On your remote, IMMEDIATELY press unlock by itself.
B6) You’ll get one of three responses:
R1) You’ll hear the doors "LOCK", then "UNLOCK" once. The remote is accepted. If you want to program another remote, immediately
proceed to step B4, otherwise open the driver’s door and the remote is registered.
R2) You’ll hear the doors "LOCK", then "UNLOCK" twice. You didn’t use the same remote in steps B4 and B5 (not likely).
R3) If no response, go back to step 1 near the beginning of these instructions.
C. Confirmation mode:
C1) Turn the key in 1 to "ON" and back to "LOCK" in one second intervals for a total of 3 times.
C2) Remove the key.
C3) You’ll hear the doors "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" in 2 second intervals. (just listen and count each set)
1 Set = You have 1 remote registered
2 Sets = You have 2 remotes registered
3 Sets = You have 3 remotes registered
4 Sets = You have 4 remotes registered

Alarm/keyless RS3000
First, some background info. You will need to find the ECU for the
alarm/keyless RS3000 system. Mine is under the drivers seat. (Authors note:
In the Tundra, the Alarm ECU is generally located on the drivers' side
sidewall area under and behind the dash.) Looking at the side with the
connectors on it, there is a small button or hole on the right-hand side. you
will need to press the button or insert a paper clip into the hole to press
the switch inside, following the instructions below. The Status Monitor is
the Red LED light on the dash that says "security" under it. This procedure
seems quite simple, although the manual still advises one to contact a dealer
to do it. It sure isn't worth $76! Be sure that you follow the procedure
exactly or there is a chance that you might mess up the programming of the
original remote. If that happens, just follow the procedure again to add the
remote back to the system. 1. Insert key into the ignition switch and turn to
"ON". 2. Press and hold the ECU's programming switch for 3 seconds. The
Status Monitor LED turns on for 5 seconds. YOU MUST PERFORM THE NEXT STEP
WITHIN 5 SECONDS! 3. Press and release the remote control's top or bottom
button (whichever one you want to operate the system). The Status Monitor LED
turns off. The Piezo "chirper" chirps once. The exterior lights flash once.
4. Turn off the ignition. The ECU will now operate with the remote just
programmed.
VW
1) Open drivers door window.
2) You need two keys for the car (one in the ignition
and the other in the door)
3) Turn the ignition on, then reach your hand out the
window and lock the car with the key in the door.
4) Press and hold the lock button on the remote till
the horn chirps.
6) Try your remote and it should now work.
7) This remote info will go into the next slot in the
cars memory slot in the computer, leaving the
remaining remotes still working.
