IV. Target Participants: 29 student nurses

V. Rationale:
The evidence that a large proportion of childhood morbidity and mortality in
the development world is caused by just five conditions is really not enough
justification for an integrated approach. However, most sick children present
with signs and symptoms related to more than one of these conditions. This
overlap means that a single diagnosis may neither be possible nor appropriate.
Treatment of childhood illness may also be complicated by the need to combine
therapy for several conditions. An integrated approach to managing sick
children is, therefore, indicated, as is the need to go beyond single diseases
and address the overall health of a child.

Therefore, the IMCI strategy combines improved management of childhood

illnesses with aspects of nutrition, immunization, and several other important
influences on child health, including maternal health. The IMCI strategy aims
at reducing death, and frequency and severity of illness and disability, by
integrating treatment and prevention of major childhood illnesses, to contribute
to improved growth and development.

We, nursing students Batch 2018, of Aklan State University will be

conducting a seminar about the updates on Integrated Management of
Childhood Illnesses (IMCI|). This is for the student nurses, as part of the health
team, to increase their knowledge about the major child health problems
because IMCI systematically addresses the most important causes of children
illness and death. It also promotes prevention as well as cure because it %
emphasizes important preventive interventions such as immunization and
