LEAF’s Rapid Response grants are dedicated to moving resources quickly and
strategically, to meet unforeseen needs and opportunities that align with the
purpose of the Fund.

During 2017-18, the LEAF Rapid Response Fund will fund small grants up to
£15,000 per grant to eligible Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and
Community Based Organizations (CBOs).

What might the LEAF Rapid Response grants support?

 A strategic response to an unforeseen threat or crisis, including legislative or

policy developments;

 A strategic response to a new opportunity that is immediate, has a specific

timeframe, and is aligned with LEAF’s approach and priorities;

 A short-term project or action that creates opportunities to organize and build

coalitions and/or educate public officials or the general public.

 Time-sensitive components of projects with larger budgets can be funded

when those components significantly contribute to the project’s final
outcome.

Who can apply?

 Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Community Based

Organisations (CBOs) working for the long-term preservation of the Leuser
Ecosystem

 Alliances and coalitions that are led by organisations working collaboratively

to scale up the strategic reach, scale and impact of work to protect and
restore the Leuser Ecosystem.

 Rapid Response grants will be restricted to one award per organisation per
year; an organisation may submit up to 2 applications to the LEAF Rapid
Response Fund per year if the first is unsuccessful.

How does the application process work?

 There is no deadline for Rapid Response Fund requests. Proposals are
considered on a rolling basis.

 We aim to review all applications within 10 working days of submission.

Before grants are approved, they are reviewed by members of the LEAF
Technical Committee, who may seek input from trusted stakeholders familiar
with the region or issue.

 Once a project is approved, a grant award letter and a grant agreement,

which are available in English and Bahasa Indonesia, will be sent to the
grant recipient. The grant agreement form must be signed before funds can
be disbursed. In addition to the signed forms, grant recipients must provide
a copy of any one document indicating their organization is equivalent to a
non-profit under the laws of their country (for example, government
registration letter, by-laws, statutes, charter, constitution, or articles of
incorporation) and complete a short due diligence form.

 Successful applicants are required to submit timely progress and financial

reports. Detailed reporting guidelines will be sent to successful grantees.
