SECTION A

READING

Reading is based on different genres, both fiction and non-fiction extracts.

A knowledge of literature terminology is required:

(alliteration, hyperbole, metaphor, personification, onomatopoeia etc.)

Answers required are quotations or phrases from the text as well as student’s own words.

GRAMMAR AND PUNCTUATION

The Grammar and Punctuation is incorporated in the Reading Comprehension.

There is no separate Grammar section.

NOTE-TAKING AND SUMMARY WRITING

Part of the Reading section of Paper 1 has a note-taking exercise followed by a summary on the
same notes. (80 – 100 words)

SECTION B

WRITING

Students are expected to write first person or third person essays.

Articles for newspapers or magazines, narrative stories and letter writing may be included, therefore
knowledge of different styles of writing is required.
 Checkpoint Maths Exams for Grade 8 Students

Timing:

Spring 2016 – trial for selected students (Testing Period: April 11th – 22nd)

Spring 2017 – all ABQ Grade 8 students will take the Checkpoint exam

Curriculum:

The exams will cover material covered in Grades 7 and 8.

- For Maths, there are three general sections covered

o Number
o Algebra
o Shapes, Space and Measures

Exam Duration:

1 hour
 Checkpoint Exams for Grade 8 Students

Subject:

Science

Curriculum:

The exams will cover material covered in Grades 7 and 8.

There will only be one science paper which will include topics from

o Physics
o Chemistry
o Biology

Total marks for the paper is 50. Maximum time allowed is 45 minutes.
