As a part of the Middlesex Community, our school is reaching out for your support.
We strive each day to build a passion for learning in our young people at Middlesex
Elementary School. We are working toward sending these future leaders out into the
community to help build a stronger community. As the leader of Middlesex Elementary
School for the last three years, we have seen our federal, state and local budget
continue to shrink drastically. We have gained community support from Eaton
Corporation with a grant each year which has helped offset the budget decline.
However, this year, we are reaching out to all parts of the community for help in several
ways.
Our federal budget this year was cut $10,000. This impacts teacher resources and
staffing. Our state budget has only been released at 50% at this time. That 50% has
been cut by several hundred dollars in each spending category. We rely on our school
fundraisers to support what is missing in these budgets each year. However, our school
is comprised of more than 80% low income families and fundraising is not always
successful. Parents’ priorities are placed on supporting their families first with limited
income, which hinders the ability to support the school financially.
I hope you are wondering what our school needs and why there is such a sense of
urgency to solicit financial donations. Attached to the back of this letter is a list of our
current needs. All of these directly impact student learning. A small donation from
community supporters would help meet some of these needs.
I also want to inform you of ways you can help if financial support is not an option.
We accept any donated supplies for students or classrooms. We always need student
and staff rewards. We have an awesome group of both students and staff at Middlesex
Elementary that work hard each day. We could also use your time. Some of our
greatest need can not be met financially. At Middlesex our motto is "Real Life Learning
for Real Life Living!" We are striving to provide education that prepares our students to
enter the "Real World." We cannot do that without partners in our community.
Volunteering your time and expertise provides the children in our community a way to

take the learning out of the classroom and into the world. Time spent tutoring,
mentoring, or showing students what your company does would be invaluable in
cementing the relationship between school and community.
If you allow your staff to visit with us during the school day, we could use some
mentors for our students. This could be as much or as little time as you deem
appropriate. We suggest at least once a month for an hour. Mentors can offer support
to students by merely making personal connections. More information can be given if
you or any of your work team are interested.
Again, thank you for being a community partner with our school and supporting us
with your thoughts, prayers and well wishes for the new year (as well as any donation
you feel led to make).
Sincerely,
