Note!
The present instruction manual is concerned with the situations which,
according to the experience of FLS, are the most likely to occur. An
exhaustive enumeration of all conceivable situations which may occur
during the installation, maintenance or operation of the fan cannot be
provided.

Consequently, if a situation should arise, the occurrence of which is not

foreseen in the instruction manual, and which the operator is/or feels
unable to handle, we would recommend that FLS is contacted without
undue delay for advice on appropriate action.

1.GENERAL NOTES

The centrifugal fan under review should only be utilized for handling
clean air and exhaust gases which are deemed to be typical of ce-
ment plants etc., potentially containing a small amount of dust par-
ticles or impurities. The underlying choice of materials and the in-
stallation dimensions of the fan are specifically adapted to the purpose
for which the fan is intended. Any changes with respect to the
range of application or the operating environment of fan to be
implemented only subject to prior approval from FLS.

REQUIREMENT:
Fan to be used for the above-mentioned purpose only!

The machine meets the requirements outlined in EU directives:

2006/42/EC (Machinery) and 2006/95/EC, 2004/108/EC (EMC).
An alternative method of monitoring the temperature level involves touching the
bearing housing physically. It is acceptable to use this method as long as it does not
involve any discomfort. However, if this is the case, a thermometer should be used to
check the temperature. If incorporated, the grease escape hole (33) of the bearing
housing must be filled with a grease plug to prevent ingress of dust and dirt.

5.3 V-belt drive

Retighten the screws in the adapter ring bushings of the V-belt pulleys. Check that all
belts are tensioned to specified level and check that the belts are subjected to
uniform rates of wear.

5.4 Shaft seal

Shaft seal to be examined at the specified service intervals. The sealing disc must not
give rise to squeezing around the shaft. When replacing or adjusting the seal, the
contact faces should be coated with grease.

5.5 Vibrations
The vibration level of the structure must be measured at a central location. There is
no need to specify the vibration level of the single source of vibration since the factor
of significance is the overall intensity of vibrations to which the structure is
subjected. Quite often it will be possible for the operator to identify the sources,
including the fan rotor (i.e. impeller, shaft and bearings), coupling or motor, by
touching the bearing housings, and, respectively, motor.
The vibration level of the fan is checked by using an electronic vibration meter so as
to determine the vibrations on the bearing housings. The measurements must be
performed in accordance with DIN ISO 1940, by measuring the effective value of the
vibration rate Veff (rms). Subsequently, the recorded value must be compared to the
tolerances indicated in the table below.
Normally, the level of vibration experienced during fan operation should be within the
range rated as being "Smooth or Good". In case the vibration level should rise to the
level rated as being "Still admissible", the operation of fan may be continued subject
to the condition that a major overhaul of fan is carried out at the earliest possible
date since vibrations of this magnitude may be ascribable to one or several of the fan
components being affected by critical wear.
The fan must not be maintained in operation in case the vibration level has reached the
range which is rated as being "Inadmissible" since this may lead to a total breakdown and
attendant risk of injury to personnel.

5.6 Faults and remedial action

In the event of functional/operating problems should occur, the table below can be
used as a basis for identifying the problem. The table indicates some of the most
typically encountered faults/problems in connection with the operation of fans.

It is impossible to give an exhaustive enumeration of all conceivable situations which

may occur. In case the problem is not solved in a satisfactory manner or not solved
at all, please contact FLSmidth & Co. for appropriate action.
