Introduction - Angela (2 minutes):

 Ask if they remember our names? Introduce again
 What we are going to do - Invasion game and fundamental skills with kicking and
dribbling focus
 What is an invasion game? Examples?
 Reminder of what an invasion game is - activities that involve controlling an object,
keeping it away from opponents and moving it into position to score. Both offensive and
defensive players share the same playing area as they work to prevent the other team
from scoring.
 Why we are going to do it - By playing these games, participants will learn the key skills
and tactics for games such as Soccer, Handball, Ultimate Frisbee, Football, Basketball,
Hockey, Goalball, Wheelchair Basketball and Lacrosse.
 We are going to warm you up

Warm Up - Nakia (10 minutes)

 Chain Tag (2 rounds if needed):
o Makes 2 sets of pairs to be it
o Pairs hold hands or link arms with one another
o They chase the other classmates and try to tag them
o If they are tagged, they join the chain
o Once they make 4 in a chain, the chain splits into 2 pairs and they continue on
o Red basketball court lines are the boundaries

Fundamental Skill - Jenn (10 minutes):

 Kicking Cues:
o Plant with your non-kicking foot beside the ball pointing in the direction you want
to kick
o Eye on the ball
o Make contact with the ball with the inside of your foot
o Raise arms slightly like “airplane wings” for balance
o Follow through with your kicking leg
 Receiving cues:
o Toe up heel down
o Body behind the ball
o Cushion the ball with your foot
 Activity: Kicking to partner (2 minutes):
o Focus on cues
 Dribbling cues:
o Gently push the ball forward with the inside or outside of your foot
o Keep the ball close so you can stop at any point
o Small touches
o Try to keep your head up
 Activity: Relay Race:
o 6 small groups if enough space
o Dribble a circle around 3 cones and pass back to the next person in line
(demonstration)
 Practice this twice each and then switch into a relay
o Dribbling progressions (dominant foot, both feet, non-dominant foot)

Activity - Cone Soccer (Hillary and Angela):

Activity Set Up:
 Divide participants into 4 groups (e.g., four to six). Two groups play together in game
(one game on each half of the court).
 Participants in each game set up a small activity area and divide the area in half so each
group has a side.
 Each group uses a pylon for a goal in the centre of its space.

Activity Instructions:
 Each group tries to score a goal while working together to defend its own goal. There are
no goalies.
 To score a goal, a player kicks the ball and hits the other group’s pylon.
 Once a participant has scored, the other group takes possession of the ball.
 Boundaries - 3 outside basketball lines (red), and volleyball line in middle (green).
 If the ball goes out of bounds, there is a change in possession and the ball gets kicked in.

Questions to refine Movement:

 When your group is in possession of the ball, what can you do to help your group move
the ball into the other group’s territory?
 What are tactics you can use to gain possession of the ball?

Adaptations:
 Increase the challenge
1. Smaller ball
2. Larger game space
 Decrease the challenge
1. Larger ball
2. Defending team can only walk
3. Smaller space
