Reflection:
I interviewed a female fourth grade student. I went in to the interview creating a set of
questions that would allow me to get a sense of how the student felt about subjects in school,
how they felt as a learner, etc. The student explained that they preferred math over any other
subject because math was easier to them and they felt more confident. The student said that they
liked to read because of the unique, fun stories, and the adventure within books. This particular
student does like to write especially when they are able to write their own stories. The student
also expressed that they liked to work hands on creating projects and experiments in social
studies and science. When asked how they felt they learned best, the student said visually. The
student said that they liked to have things in front of them to be able to see in order to learn best.
I could connect to this because I am a very visual learner myself. This student had very positive
things to say when it came to discussing what they would keep the same if they were the teacher.
The student couldn’t really come up with anything they would change if they were the teacher.
This surprised me because normally students would have many things they would change,
whether it be longer recess or lunch, getting to sit wherever, etc. However, the student later did
say that they wished they could have someone in the room more during the day to help out.
Overall, the student had a really positive outlook about school and their future education.
