inside the company towards the interns, Because of this ,she can work comfortably.

The trainee experienced a lot of things when it comes to the Human Resource's

works. They experience to be an interviewee and to be an interviewer at the same

time. They have a lot of tasks in the company like receiving phone calls, giving

memos, receiving and giving some HR forms and to be familiar in some forms of

benefits when it comes to the compensation. Because of those task she felt like a real

employee. The trainee spent too much in doing the 201 filling, it is complicated for

her, she needs to be more cautious on handling those papers because those

documents are really important and they need to secure confidentiality.

The trainee experiences how to deal with different person that makes her

enhance her skills when it comes to interpersonal. She learned the different strategies

to be more productive in a workplace. Those experiences contributed a lot for her

own improvement. The one thing that is memorable for her was that she observed the

company as a nice place. The employees inside have treated each other as a family.

She felt welcome staying here for days. She can say that the employees in the

company treated them like their co-workers also. Despite that there was some issues

about some of the employees, but it was still manageable and this things did not
7

affect their work.

 201 filing, securing records confidentiality.

 Time keeping in which she encodes and familiarizes the schedule of the

employees of Gentri Doctors Medical Center.

Insights

In almost one month of staying and working at Gentri Doctors Medical Center,

the trainee has learned a lot of things. She gained a lot of knowledge and experiences

in her working environment.

In this setting, she realized that there are always rooms for improvement.

Because of this practicum, the trainee was given a chance to apply her knowledge in

a real situation. First, she was thinking that working as an HR was boring, but when
9

the days passed, she learned how to love it and enjoys it. Being a psychology student,

it is important to practice her communication skills and to enhance her self-

confidence first in dealing with different people. Her experiences of being a trainee

makes her more competitive and more responsible. As a student, she realized a lot of

things during this practicum, like the working place is another thing, and she was

given a chance to experience to face the possible reality of life when it comes to a

real work place. The trainee was so happy because she enjoyed so much working as

HR and she shows interest in working in this field to gain more experiences and

knowledge about this setting.

Recommendations

The company must continue the internship in their program. It gives an

opportunity to the students to make themselves prepared in a working environment.

But they should limit it, there are situations that they can't handle the interns because

their total number was out of their capacity for supervision.

They must limit the job rotation for the interns, It takes a lot of adjustments and

efforts for the students to work in a different department every week. Some of the

interns did not specialize and practice their own fields because most of their jobs in

other department are not related to their course.

The whole experience of the trainee in the company was great. She observed

how approachable, good and accommodating the people in the company to the

interns, thing that makes the trainees to work comfortably. The company does not let

anyone to learn nothing. They can maintain and continue this kind of ways of
10

handling their interns.

CLINICAL SETTING

LORD'S AGAPE RECOVERY CENTER

11

LORD'S AGAPE RECOVERY CENTER

Lord’s

Agape

Recovery

Center was the idea of the couple Lil and Jun that challenged their dedication to

continue their advocacy to help in the recovery of the victims from the “disease of

addiction”. This advocacy started on the 3rd quarter of year 2009 in the province of

Cavite. The couple developed a simple approach being a Happy Family living

together in a Therapeutic community, it started as TC (Therapeutic Community)

treatment approach. The center was completely setup with nurturing programs

together with the relationship with God, which was inspired by exposure from certain

community. The Catholic Servant Community, the retreats, the ME (marriage

encounter), and the spiritual services. The TC (Therapeutic Community) approach

was combined with the Spiritual Recovery, where we find the best and effective

approach in healing the “disease of addiction”.

The training at the Dangerous Drugs Board, Quezon City Anti-Drug Abuse

Advisory Council and exposure with various Government facilities and private drug

rehabilitation center motivated the couple to do more research and study on how to

improve such approach. They have developed the recovery of spirituality as the
12

highest concepts, utilizing the Twelve Steps Program aims to treat patients with

chemical dependency, endorsing a set of values and beliefs about the powerlessness

of people over drug taking and turning to a “Higher Power” to help them combat the

disease. In this approach, counselors and patients collaborate in defining the path to

recovery. Intervention is made so effective and applicable for the recovering addicts.

The combination of this approach is considered as the best program for us, but still

the Center encounter difficulties like securing DOH accreditation, Family or guardian

relationship and the unhealthy feedback outside the center. From the old name and

trademark CARE that denotes personal love or a serious attention or consideration

applied to doing something correctly or to avoid damage or risk, the couple digs for

the deepest level of love fueled by a desire to serve and do what is correct. This kind

of love is patient and kind. It does not envy or boast. It is never proud, rude, or self-

seeking. It always puts the need of another first. It is not easily angered and does not

keep track of wrongs. It’s AGAPE, a GOD’s Love, a GOD’s character. AGAPE

celebrates truth, protects and trusts, hopes, perseveres, and never fails (1Cor. 13:4-7).

Lord’s Agape Recovery Center (LARC) pushes an effort to provide effective

treatment by utilizing ECLECTIC APPROACH. This approach is Holistic which

means that Agape focuses in the restoration of a well-rounded individual dealing with

all aspects of mental, emotional, social, physical, physiological and spiritual health.

The concept is most suitable to address addiction problem as it takes into

consideration all factors in the healing process. It is also commonly known as a

multi-disciplinary team approach.

Mission - To intervene and empower victims of addiction and related conditions

13

to maintain sobriety by providing innovative and holistic treatment services.

Vision - To be an advocate and effective provider of addiction treatment and

other related conditions in the country.

ACTUAL OBSERVATION AND EXPERIENCES

Working at Lord's Agape Recovery Center was a great experience for the trainee.

She experienced the possible reality that she can face for the future when it comes to

the clinical setting. When she started working at the center, she observed that the

people inside were treating each other equally. The center have a good program when

it comes to the recovery of their clients. It was because the trainee observed that the

clients were well discipline, have unity and also the center have a way to make their

clients understand the importance of their recovery. She experienced to interview a

client, to administer some psychological tests and to interpret those. She became a

facilitator once and a lecturer too. Those experiences contributed a lot in her own

improvement and personality. Because of those, her perspectives when it comes to

the recovering addicts have changed.

The student also observed that the center has limited psychological tests and

some of them was out of date. Due to the limited number of staffs, each one was

always busy and there was also a time that they were out of supervision. So, they

always experienced to take the initiative. When it comes to the relationship to their

working environment, she observed that the family inside the center was nice and

would make them feel welcome . She can see the center as a nice, beautiful place and

their facilities are good for the recovering patients because of its cleanliness and the
14

environment is just like a retreat house that she can feel the peace and warmth.

not parallel to each other.

15

 Some of the psychological tests were out of date so she a had hard time to

interpret those.

 The schedules and the deadlines of their works were always changing.

Solutions

 She followed the instructions carefully that were written on the copy of the

interpretation, and if she had the hard time to understand it, she just asked the

staffs.

 The student trainee asked the staffs to make things clear if they gave different

directions.

 She asked the staffs whenever she had a hard time interpreting the test results.

 The student trainee does her works as much as possible because it needs to be

readied anytime she needs it.

Insights

In almost one month of staying and working at Lord's Agape Recovery Center,

the trainee has learned a lot of things. She gained a lot of knowledge and experiences

when it comes to the working environment in clinical setting.

First she was nervous and curious before she started thinking that the

rehabilitation was a harmful place because it is a place wherein there are lot of

recovering addicts and so on. After days of working at the center, her perspective

when it comes to the rehabilitation and the patients have changed. The student

realized that the patients were always trying to do their best to change. They are just

a victims who seek help to understand them. She realized that they are the people
16

who need an extra care and guidance.

Being a psychology student, she learned the importance of understanding

people and not to judge them quickly. Working as a staff in the center, the student

shows interest in the clinical field. She wants to continue the path going to this

helping profession, she hopes that someday she can help those people who needs

help regarding those issues about substance abuse.

Recommendations

The center must continue the internship on their program, It gives an

opportunity to the students to make themselves prepared in a working environment.

But they should limit it, there were some situations that they can't handle some

interns because their total number was out of their capacity for supervision.

The place is nice and warm. It is a good workplace for the interns, the center's

environment is a place in which student can work comfortably. They must continue

the retreat house like environment.

People inside the center are treating each other equally, the patients, staffs and

the guards treats each other as a family. They called everyone as "brad" and "sis" that

makes the interns here to work comfortably and welcome.

The whole experience of the trainee in the center was great. She observed that

the center was a nice place. She learned a lot of meaningful things inside. The center

must maintain and continue the good environment inside the center. The peaceful

surroundings can help a lot in the recovery of their patients and their place can be a

good environment for their workers and staffs.
