Reflective Essay

We chose a learning standard that is able to use prepositions correctly and appropriately.
It guided my partner and I to sequence the lesson accordingly. In our set induction, we used word
puzzle to test on pupils’ prior knowledge. It is a way to arouse the pupils interest towards lesson.
Whereas, in presentation stage, we use powerpoint slides to teach on preposition of places.
Based on Starr (2011), powerpoint slides captures the pupils’ attention and keep them interested
to the lesson. Hence, I used visuals and sample sentences to demonstrate on correct use of
preposition of places.

Next, we implemented deductive approach in the lesson. According on Bilash (2009),

deductive approach is where the teacher teaches the pupils new concept, and pupils will practice
using it in different ways. Therefore, we teach the pupils on the rule of using correct prepositions
of places, then provided them with different practice like constructing sentences. In between, we
provided assessment to test on the pupils understanding towards the lesson. As Marshbank
(2008), said assessment is essential to evaluate whether the learning standard to be achieved.
Therefore, I assessed my pupils by asking them to arrange the words and write sentences using
correct prepositions. The pupils were able to achieve the learning objective of the lesson through
assessment.

I personally learnt that time management is important factor during simulated teaching.
According to Cox (2014), time management help teachers prioritise basic classroom that increase
productivity of pupils. Hence, I just needed to beware of time allocated for each stages that cause
instability of lesson. Nonetheless, I has done a great job in utilizing all the materials prepared for
the lesson. It engage the pupils actively to the lesson. For instance, the use of pictures guided
the pupils on the correct use of prepositions in constructing sentences. Furthermore, good voice
projection is one of my strength during simulated teaching. Linsin (2011),proved that a good voice
projection promotes good listening and able to follow the instruction among pupils.

In conclusion, I have learnt many lessons that can really guide and improve to face the
real educational world.
