PHOTOSYNTHESIS NOTES

In what type of cell does Photosynthesis occur?

Plant Cell

In what organelle does photosynthesis occur?

Chloroplast

What are the three Reactants of photosynthesis?

Carbon dioxide, water, Sunlight

What are the two products of Photosynthesis?

Oxygen and Glucose

Oxygen is a waste for the plants.

Carbon dioxide enters the plant through the Stomata. Oxygen leaves the plant through the
stomata.

One molecule of Glucose is a sugar. When more than one molecule of glucose combine it is
called a Carbohydrate

Organisms, such as plants, that make their own food are called Autotrophs.

Organisms that cannot make their own food and must obtain energy from the foods they eat
are called Heterotroph

Plants gather the sun’s energy with light-absorbing molecules called Chlorophyll.

Most plants appear green because chlorophyll absorbs all colors but reflects green.

What is the one component in photosynthesis that is not recycled and must be constantly
available?
SUN LIGHT
CELLULAR RESPIRATION NOTES

In what type of cell does cellular respiration occur?

Animal Cell

In what organelle does cellular respiration occur?

Mitochondria

What are the Two Reactants of cellular respiration?

Glucose and oxygen

What are the Three products of cellular respiration?

Carbon Dioxide, water, ATP

Carbon Dioxide is a waste for the Animal.

What four substances are recycled during photosynthesis and respiration?

Water, Carbon dioxide, Glucose, Water
Photosynthesis- process by which producers / plants use the energy in sunlight to
create their own food.

Chlorophyll – the green substance (pigment) contained in the chloroplast of

plant leaves that captures the energy in sunlight

Chloroplast – a structure in a plant cell that contain chlorophyll; site of

photosynthesis

Stomata-is a microscopic pore on the surface (epidermis) of land plants.

Transpiration- is the evaporation of water into the atmosphere from the leaves
and stems of plant

Glucose – a sugar molecule; product of photosynthesis

Carbon dioxide- is used in the process of photosynthesis and is taken in through

the leaf

Radiant energy- energy that is transferred by electromagnetic radiation, such as

light, x-rays, gamma rays, and thermal radiation.

Chemical energy- is the potential of a chemical substance to undergo a

transformation through a chemical reaction.

Light energy- is a form of energy that is associated with visible light. Ex. The sun

Oxygen- is a byproduct of photosynthesis
