HHC Company Medics

With new leadership and enthusiasm the 1-67 AR Medical Platoon has conducted medical lanes
and additional training to further advance the knowledge of the medics. 2LT Malerk arrived in April and
has placed emphasis on areas such as immunizations to help lower the number of non-deployable soldiers
in the Battalion. The Medical Platoon Sergeant, SFC Simington, arrived in July and has truly motivated
the platoon. Having vast knowledge in the medical field and coming from the Special Forces 18D course
SFC Simington has implemented a significant amount of training in the Platoon. The platoon just com-
pleted trauma, MASCAL and MEDCAP lanes that tested the knowledge and reaction time of the medics.
SFC Simington and SSG Smith, Treatment NCOIC, have conducted medical classes and guided the medics
through the variety of lanes. In the future the platoon has a large amount of training planned such as TC3,
live tissue, burn center training, and EFMB. The focus of the platoon is geared towards what the medics
will face during the upcoming Afghanistan deployment. The Medical Platoon has tough quality training in
place, a high level of motivation from the new leadership, and the confidence being built as a platoon to
achieve the next level in medical aid. - Voodoo 1

Layette Program and Gifts for New Babies

A message from Erikka Simmering
Hello to all the Soldiers and Families of 1-67! I wanted to put a quick note in the newslet-
ter this month regarding all our new additions to the unit. We have revamped our baby
layette program for post and babies will now be receiving the 4ID layette at Evans when
they are born. If your child is not born at Evans, please contact Fran to obtain a Layette.
My husband and I also have a small "Welcome" gift from the unit that we had been hand-
ing out monthly at the Steering Committee Meeting with the layettes. We have decided to
keep the gift in Fran‘s office for either the Soldier, Family member, or Company represen-
tative to pick up as babies are born. We enjoy presenting them at the meetings but it will
be even harder to keep track of our new babies with the change in the layette program and
are concerned about missing someone. This will also allow people to receive their gift
sooner rather than later. I think this will be the best way to get our gift out. All the best to
our families and new babies! We hope you enjoy your gift!

Best Regards,
Erikka Simmering
