Lesson Title: Cell Respiration Lesson Date: 21/12/2017

One sentence summary: Understanding the ATP structure and metabolic reactions

Links to curriculum: IB Topic 2.8

Length of lesson: 40 minutes

Objectives:
1. Students will be able to define at least 3 terms related to cell respiration
2. After preparing concept map students will be able to relate the concept of cell
respiration.

Key vocabulary: Metabolism, ATP, ADP, Phosphate, Energy Production

Common misconceptions:
 ATP stores the most energy (NADPH is the most energy store).
 Breathing and cellular respiration are same things.

Teacher Preparation: A concept map sample, PowerPoint presentation, preparing materials

for ATP structure

Lesson starter (what will you do or ask to assess student prior knowledge and
1 possible misconceptions [constructivism]; how will you spark student interest)

Questioning (Do you remember what means catabolism and anabolism?)

Lesson core (outline how you will Student engagement (what are students
conduct the activity) doing)

Explain that today’s lesson will be about

cell respiration

Talk about anabolic and catabolic

reactions. (7)

Talk about ATP structure with giving an Students listening, talking and asking
21 example. (4) some questions about the cell respiration.
(objective 1)
Talk about ATP is a source of energy in
cells.
(3)
Students share ideas and suggestions.
Talk about cell respiration. (7)

Conclusions and closure (how will you wrap up the lesson, compare student prior
knowledge to current knowledge, determine if misconceptions have been addressed,
ensure all objectives are covered):

10 Show students the concept map and ask them to prepare their concept map. Ask
students to share their understanding of the cell respiration. Point out where
objective 2 is addressed.

Giving students a exit card about cell respiration on the purpose of evaluation and
5
discuss the exit card questions together.

Final administrative or lesson tasks (collecting paperwork, assigning homework,

announcing reminders, etc.)
