Through long observation and understanding, any communication and body
language signals can be identified. Slobodchikoff used Prairie dogs to translate their growls, barks and calls into English. Similarly, research is on to build a large database of emotional landmarks, voice tonality and facial expressions of humans to decipher their emotional states as well as intended behaviour. This has significant implications for autonomous cars in understanding pedestrian behaviour, sports analytics to understand opponent actions and in understanding patients with depression and autism. It could also enable humans to interact with robots seamlessly.
This advance in AI will lead to a breakthrough in communications both with
humans as well as animals. Thus the emotionless computer could actually be more accurate in predicting and deciphering emotional content than humans, ironically.
