Question #1 A rental car company charges a fixed fee of $30 plus $0.05 per mile.
Let c represent the total cost of renting a car and driving it m miles.

PART I: Write an equation that could be used to find the total cost
of renting a car and driving it any number of miles.
c = 30 + 0.05m

PART II: The Boggs family paid $49.75 for their car rental. How
many miles did they drive?

 C = $49.75
$49.75 = 30.00 + 0.05m
-30.00 -30.00
19.75 = 0.05m
19.75 0.05m
0.05 = 0.05
395 = m

The Boggs family drove 395 miles.

Question #2 It costs $7.50 to enter a petting zoo. Each cup of food to feed the
animals is $2.50.

PART I: Write an equation that could be used to find the number of

cups you can buy to feed the animals with $12.50
X = the number of cups bought to feed the animals
12.50 = 7.50 + 2.50x

PART II: If you have $12.50, how many cups can you buy?
 12.50 = 7.50 + 2.50x
-7.50 -7.50
5.00 = 2.50x
5.00 5.00x
2.50 = 2.50
2=x

If you have $12.50, you could buy 2 cups of food to feed the
animals.
