Dear Parish Family,
This is the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time. This is also
Catechist Sunday here in our parish. At the 10 AM Mass
today, all who are involved in teaching the faith will be
blessed and commissioned for the new pastoral year just
beginning. Catechists from our Religious Education Dept.,
RCIA/RCIC, and our Baptismal Preparation program are
included in today’s commissioning.
I welcome our Religious Ed students back to their first
class. I thank and welcome the catechists who are
helping reach our young people with their time and talent.
Lastly, I welcome Angela Connelly to our parish staff as
our new Director of Religious Education. Angela comes to
us with much experience, vision, and dedication, and I’m
so happy she is here with us. I have invited her to
introduce herself in today’s bulletin. Below you will find
the story of her journey to our parish.
Thank you for your Stewardship of Time, Talent, and
Treasure, and for all the you do for our parish.

ANGELA CONNELLY - DIR. OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
I want to thank the many people at OLQP who have made
me feel welcomed and part of your parish family during
these summer months. Father Larry invited me here in
June, and I immediately said yes. I knew that OLQP
would be a great parish community to serve.
I have served in the Religious Education Ministry and in
Catholic education for my entire career. Working for the
Catholic Church is working for God; and working for God
is not a job, it is the ministry of sharing the Good News of
Jesus Christ. I previously served as the DRE at
Immaculate Conception Church in Secaucus with Fr. Joe
Pietropinto (I believe an old friend of yours) and most
recently at St. Rose of Lima in Short Hills for a total of
eight years. I’ve also taught elementary school and high
school in the Archdiocese of Newark and served one year
as principal at St. Michael’s School in Cranford. I come to
OLQP professionally prepared with an MA in Education
and a Catechetical Ministry Certificate from Immaculate
Conception Seminary. In addition to teaching children, I
have taught theology courses for adults and am active in
Women’s Cornerstone (which I highly recommend to all
women of the parish).
As your Director of Religious Education, I believe it is
important that parents benefit from and share in the
planning of the faith formation of their children. To
accomplish this all of us need to follow the teachings of
Jesus and our Catholic Church. We are partners in the
religious education of our children. To this end I envision
parents and children coming together in small groups as
part of a Family Based Catechetical Program. I hope that
more people will offer their time and talent so we can
expand our program offerings to include Kindergarten and
Pre-K and a Team Ministry for the Junior High grades
(6-7-8). Beginning a Family Ministry for parents with newly
baptized babies and children to age 4 is also a goal of the
Religious Education Program. You will also see that
beginning September 26th, Liturgy of the Word for Children
will be offered every week at the 10AM Family Mass. The
key word in all of this is “Family”. We are on the move. You
are the families of OLQP, and I pray that your family will
take advantage of what your church has planned for you.
Remember, God loves you and is with you always.

60TH ANNIVERSARY NEWS
Mark This Year's Calendar - November 7, 2010
Our 60th Anniversary Gala will begin with Mass at 3 pm
celebrated by Bishop John Flesey, D.D.. Mass will be
followed by a reception from 5 - 9 pm at the Hasbrouck
Heights Hilton. Good food, fun, fellowship, and great
dancing with a fabulous live band.
Ticket orders for the dinner /dance are due by September
15th. There are only 250 tickets available, and 126
have been sold already. Be sure to get your order in
soon. Don't miss the fun!
The order forms for the tickets are available in the church
vestibule, in the Rectory office, and can be downloaded
from our website. (Click on the word "Gala".)
The Gala Committee is looking for prizes. If you would like
to donate something such as Hotel or condo stays,
vacations or trips, spa treatments, sporting event tickets,
theater or concert tickets, jewelry (we have a man's watch),
restaurant certificates, electronic equipment, etc., please

We are in need of a portable sound system. A few weeks
ago, we had our second annual procession and recitation
of the Rosary on parish grounds. It was difficult at best to
hear the prayers and to be able to pray as a community
outside. If anyone would like to donate a portable sound
system for this purpose, please call the rectory.

Please go to our website www.olqp.org to view the upcoming
changes in the wording of several parts of the Mass. These

held every Thursday at 7:30 pm. The doors open at 5:30 pm.

ARCHDIOCESE OF NEWARK
An Annulment Information Evening is scheduled for
Wednesday, September 15, 2010. A Canon lawyer from
the Archdiocese of Newark will discuss the most recent
theology, guidelines, and requirements for obtaining a
Church annulment. The information will be presented in
terms that all can understand. A question and answer
period will conclude the session. Pre-registration is not
necessary. This evening of information will be held at the
Archdiocesan Center, (Auditorium A), 171 Clifton Avenue,
Newark, at 7:30 PM. For additional information, please
