Observations/ Account
(What Happened?)
I am teaching grade three students. From these
days observation, I got a lot and I also thought a
lot. I found students are act differently in
different classes. For example, this is art class
and the teacher is kind. So the students were so
noisy and the class is really hard to control. I
can’t even hear teacher’s voice. And after the
art class we had Language Indonesia class. The
teacher was kind of strict. Even though I didn’t
understand their language but the class was
quiet and students are more focus on the class.
Because the teacher was always remind them to
be focus on the class. I found the Language
class is more effective than art class. And I
went to different classes, students were really
acted depends on their teacher. The common
things in our class is students are really noisy.
For kids, it is really hard for them to focus
during the classroom.

They had music class today, and I found
whenever kids have something on their hand it
will really hard for them to follow teacher’s
instruction. In the language class, they had
fifteen minutes to read their books silently. But
seems students didn’t really interesting of

1. During the observation, I was really
thinking so hard about the “noisy” kids. If I
were a teacher in that class how can I deal
with these kids and how to manage the
class. This is my thought about this
problem. I believe so many people will
think they should not to be strict to their
students. Because in their opinions, it will
kill kid’s creativity. And I also heard that
some teachers don’t want to be strict to their
kids because they want to be a “good”
teacher in kid’s heart. But in my own
opinion, I think if I were the teacher we
need to improve in this particular area. We
should let the students know the boundary
about teacher and a friend. A teacher during
the teaching time is a teacher. The students
should give the respect to the teacher. Be
respectful doesn’t mean you don’t listen to
the teacher and never follow the
instructions. Until now, I am not saying
only strict can let your students to follow
the teacher. They are grade three students
and they already have the ability to
understand how to respect others or how to
be a students. On the other hand, teacher
can be a good friend to their students as
well. The important thing is let the students
know the boundary between a teacher and
friend.
2. As a teacher also need to give clear
instruction to the students.

1. Sometimes use a short video is a good way
to motivate our students.
2. Grade three students are still young and they
like to do something use their hands. If we
use the hands on activities will help students
to have better understanding. Like they are
 reading books. They were talking to each other
and the class was messy. I remembered that in
the language class again. After teaching the
teacher asked them to check their paper one by
one. The teacher was checking in the front and
the students were doing whatever they want at
back. They played around with each other.
Every time when teacher plays videos, kids are
happy and they have more motivations to learn.
And kids are always have so many questions
because they want to know a lot.
And today’s math class was good and fun.
Because they had hands on activity. So the
teacher was teaching perimeter and the teacher
played a short video to introduce how to
measure the perimeter of an object. While
playing video teacher was explaining at the
same time. It will help students to have better
understanding. After watching, teacher asked
the students to measure the perimeter of their
math book. The interesting thing is the teacher
didn’t ask them to use their ruler to measure it
immediately instead the teacher gave each of
them one ribbon and use the ribbon to measure
the book first and use the ruler to measure the
ruler after. The result will more precise and the
process was more interesting to their students.

(What Happened?)
They have devotion time every single day.
So it is really easy to get bored about it. I
like the teacher how to do the devotion
every day. She always use some real life
story or example to build the connection
between it. For example, today the school
celebrated Chinese New Year. And today’s
verse are from Deuteronomy chapter 16:13-
15. The main idea of these verses are to
thanks God for all the things from God and
to celebrate it with joyful heart. The teacher
asked the students about their favorite
festival in a year and a special day in their
life. And asked what do they usually do or
how to celebrate these special days.
Students were so happy to share their
thoughts and the teacher easily connected
with the Bible. Teacher told them they
not only know how to measure in their mind
but they literally know how to do it. It will
help students to learn.
3. Like what I mentioned every time when
kids have something on their hand it will
also hard for them to listen to the teacher. In
this situation, I think the teacher should give
the students clear rules before they do these
activities. This is what I want to do. Before I
teach, I will spend few minutes to clarify
my rules in this class. Let the students know
your expectation and rules. It is better you
use few minutes at the beginning than you
spend more time to manage the class during
the class
4. Be creative. Students are really smart
nowadays. Before we teach, spend more
time to think about the lessons. How to
make it better and interesting to them. One
reason the student can’t focus on the class
because of the lesson is not interesting
enough. Find a best way to teach students.
We should do something that can make
students interest with.

1. For grade three students, they are really
understand what is devotion and why do we
need to really do that every day. Teacher is
playing a very important role to their
students. Sometimes, they will not listen
what you are teaching but they are always
watching you. Teachers are the examples to
kids and we need to always remind
ourselves. Back to devotion, teacher should
let the students know the real reason of
devotion. It is not a daily work and we are
not only to finish the work every day. Kids
are always curious about everything that
around them. They will do better if they
know the reason why they are doing that.
2. Whatever we teach, we need to know what
is best for our students. For their age, they
 should be happy to celebrate these special
days in their life. Teacher also emphasized
that all of this is God’s Grace. Whenever we
celebrate these festivals they have to
remember that’s all from God. I like the
way how teacher did.
They had Chinese New Year Celebration
today. What they did was they colored the
picture and sang for grade five students.
During the activity time, I saw kids were
really exciting to do it. They are really
focused on what they were doing because
they were enjoying the time at that moment.
In their Indonesia class I found that
whenever they have group work to do they
became noisy and active.
In their math class today. They were
studying about perimeter and area. The
teacher was ask them to measure the
perimeter of the tile in the classroom. And
teacher let the students know that math is in
our daily life. We can use what we learned
to solve the real world problems.

(What Happened?)
I taught the morning class which is language
class. We talked about the fact and opinion.
I made a mistake because I found a practice
paper online and gave it to them. While they
are practicing and they said some of these
questions are hard for them. That was my
fault. For example, I have a question is
people always celebrate Thanksgiving in
autumn. The students in Indonesia don’t
know what autumn is because they never
have it here.
I didn’t really follow the lesson plan
because the situation is always changing
and you don’t know what will happen in
next minute. But the lesson plan did helped
me a lot. I was really nervous at that time
and I didn’t know what to do. After I check
the lesson plan and it reminded me what to
do next.
like to Do something more than just Listen.
More activities will help students to develop
their abilities.
3. Kids always need the encouragement.
Teacher’s encouragement will help students
do better. For example, in their math class
today, there was a girl so quiet. She never
talk to stranger and she didn’t really like to
talk in the class. But today she raised her
hand and answered the question. Teacher
was surprised and let her answered the
question. After answering the question,
teacher encouraged her and she was really
happy because I saw it. She was saying to
herself “yes”. And we can see that
encouragement is really important to the
students I believe she will be more
confidence when she answers the questions
next time.

When we prepare the lesson plan and we
should know our students well and our
material should base on their culture. Like
what happened today. If we don’t have right
material and it confused student in some
ways. Well prepared is very important to a
teacher. And also experience can help
teacher to be more flexible. During the
class, I found these problems were hard for
kids to understand and I don’t have time to
explain it one by one so what I did was I
chose some easy questions and ask them to
do these easier one. I skipped those hard
question.
Well prepared is always important for a
teacher. For example, like lesson plan we
never ever will follow what we exactly
write there. But why do we still need a
lesson plan? Because we never know what

1. The first class I taught today is language
class. I finished the class very early. It went
well but I didn’t know kids were already
learned a bit about the lesson. So it was
really fast.
2. For the biblical perspective, I realized I
didn’t do it well. If we want to bring biblical
perspective we should let make it sure that
we can bring the meaning out of the verses
not add the meaning into the verses. We
can’t just take any verse and add what we
want to add and make it become what we
want. We need to know the background of
the verses. We can’t use it in a wrong way
because it will mislead the children which is
not good.

1. Be a teacher really needs to be flexible. Like
what did my teacher did today. I was
nervous when I was teaching. But I finished
the class early. And I was blank and didn’t
know what to do at that moment. But what
my teacher did was to ask them questions
about what they learned from this class. But
because I don’t have enough experiences
about this. So it was made me more
nervous. As a teacher we should not only
depends on our lesson plan. Which means
we don’t know what will happen in the
classroom and we really need to learn and to
practice more.
2. For the biblical perspective, like we learned
in the OT class. I didn’t do it well this time.
I wrote it on my lesson plan but I didn’t do
it in my class. I was not confidence about
my verse. Like I knew it is really important
to use these perspective to teach, but
because I didn’t prepare well so I didn’t use
it. I don’t know the background of that verse
and I didn’t do research about it so I just
can’t use it or understand it in my own way.
And After the teaching I realized that for the
biblical perspective it’s doesn’t mean you
need to use your specific time to talk about
it. We can bring the biblical perspective into
the lesson. For example, in math class we
were talking about rectangle and we can use
so many verses that can connect with. In
Old Testament, God asked them to build so
many things and that was also had
rectangle. Some of the people also including
me always saying that we don’t have time to
prepare the biblical perspective. I think that
is because we didn’t think hard of that.

They had their Family Day today. Basically, People were so happy today because of
they played games with their parents and today’s activities. It is not easy to be a
kids sang a song for their parents and teacher. I can tell it is not easy to be a
parents received a letter from their kids. So teacher. It was really hard for them. As a
we didn’t have a class today. They played teacher, it is not only about teaching. You
so many games together. Parents and their need to be creative also to create these
kids were so happy. All the grade three games. After the Family Day the teachers
teachers prepared this family day. It was were really tired. Because it was really hard
meaningful and happy for them. After the to manage all the students on the field.
lunch time they finished their school. Teacher should be well prepared that can
help them to be more flexible when they
actually doing it.
