ENGLISH ▪ 1301 - LABS

The purpose of English-1301 Composition/Rhetoric I, is to improve each student’s reading, writing, and thinking skills. To
help students accomplish these goals, the course has a required lab component and this sheet lists some of the many
opportunities to help students fulfill this requirement. All students enrolled in English-1301 must complete 16 units of lab
work.

The course instructor may prescribe certain labs for everyone to do and others to meet individual or class needs. Instructors
will assign various due dates for various types of labs. The Writing Center consultants will sign your sheet for each session of
consultation, usually a 30-to-45 minute appointment. If you attend workshops, the instructor conducting the workshop will
sign your lab sheet. Some activities require a written response handed to the instructor within one week following the event or
activity. Consult your instructor any time you have questions. Many lab activities are the most beneficial if they are completed
early in the semester. These activities should complement in-class instruction and essay writing.

LAB CREDIT CAN BE EARNED BY CHOOSING SOME OF THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES:

1. Hemingway Biography paper (compulsory) 3 lab units
2. Video Programs in LRC (and 1 to 1½ page typed summary) 3 lab units each
