SUGGESTED READING ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITIES REMARKS
Students are introduced to reading logs and are asked to read books
as many as they can and complete the logs. Forms are called ‘logs’
and not ‘report’ forms because students are to reflect on the books Refer to appendix

Option 1
 Pupils choose a reading partner.

 Teacher asks each student to read aloud (by a few paragraph
per student).
 Teacher chooses the best reader, based on the pronunciation.
(Peer decision/voting could also be taken into consideration
when deciding the best reader).
 The best reader will be rewarded.
 Teacher can carry out an inter-class competition.
 Each pupils will fill the reading log.

Option 4
 Teacher chooses a story to be read to a group of students.
 Teacher reads the story aloud and after the reading session,
teacher could ask students to predict the ending of the story
read.
 The students fill the reading log as usual.

Option 5

 A guest reader** is invited to do reading aloud in the classroom.

 While listening, students will identify the keywords that
requested by the guest reader and write them in their
worksheet. For example; identify colours, characters, verbs and
so on.
 The students will fill the reading log as usual.

Option 6
 Class is divided into several groups.
 Each group will sit in a circle and read aloud a story book
(taking turns) of their choice until it is completed.
 A representative from each group will retell their story (in
simplest way) to the whole class.
 Teacher or students will choose the best story.
 The best group will be rewarded.
 Teacher asks students to fill their reading log.

 The students ready with their book to read.


 Then, teacher asks the students to illustrate a part of the story
ARTFUL ARTIST he or she likes best or describe a favourite character. ** Refer to appendix
 Have the students dictate or write a few sentences that tell
about the picture.
 This is also considered as reading log.**

 Teacher instructs students to read a story book during school


holiday as their homework.
SCHOOL HOLIDAY  Teacher distributes bingo card/sheet to the students.**
BINGO  Students will complete the bingo card/sheet during their school ** Refer to appendix
holiday.
 Those who achieved/completed the bingo card/sheet will be
rewarded.
 Students still need to fill their reading log.
