Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

For this particular lesson, students can access it from any device with internet, as well as in the classroom or
outside of the classroom. This is beneficial for students who may be absent during the lesson, or need the
extra instruction as a review on their own time. In addition, the notes can be printed so that students who are
hands on learners may have it in their notebooks, or have it in their hands rather than on screen. For students
who may have vision impairments, the content can be printed out while zoomed in- that way it is easier for
students to see and read.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
The lesson will begin by dividing the class into 8 groups. Each group will be assigned a historical figure, and
research this person. Once everyone has completed their research, each group will present to the class what
they learned about their historical figure. Each group will also be responsible of rephrasing to the class what
one other group said, that way the students are able to hear it in more than one way.

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

The SRT activity will act as a formative assessment to see what the students learned during the presentations.
The students will need to access a device that is internet compatible. The students will be required to
complete at least 1 game using quizlet, as well as a quiz. The teacher will collect the data, and analyze which
historical figures needs to be addressed again. The activity will last 15-20 minutes.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☒ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
1. James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove: Took part in the founding of Georgia.
2. Sequoyah: Cherokee who developed the Cherokee alphabet.
3. Jackie Robinson: Involved in Sportsmanship and civil rights.
4. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Leader in the Civil rights movement.
5. Juliette Gordon Low: Involved in Girl Scouts and leadership.
6. Jimmy Carter: Leadership and human rights, and the 39th president of the United States.
7. Maynard Jackson: Atlanta's first black mayor, and helped secure Atlanta's selection to have the
Olympic Games in 1996.
8. William B. Hartsfield: Served as mayor of Atlanta; oversaw many building projects (including the
Atlanta Airport, expressways, and parks)

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? Yes, because I feel that feedback is important for the students so that they can see where
they went wrong, and how to correct themselves.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

After the SRT activity, the teacher will analyze the data and readdress the misconceptions that were shown
throughout the games and quizzes. The students will make a book out of construction paper about each of
the historical figures, and keep it as a reference.

How will the data be used?

The data will not be used as a grade, but as a guide to the teacher to address any misconceptions, or go over
content that the students didn’t understand. The instructor will discuss the data to the class in order to

provide feedback, and allow individual instruction based on which students had misunderstandings about
certain historical figures.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity

I have never used quizlet as a resource for a class before, so the quizlet will be a new experience for me. From
this activity, I hope to see that quizlet and online learning benefits the students, as well as acts as a guide to
student learning.

Reflective Practice:
By completing this lesson and activity, the students will gain many insights: first, the quizlet activity will guide
their knowledge and extend their learning beyond textbooks. When the groups of students research their
specific historical figures, they will gain researching skills as well as how to interpret readings.
