Navigate Beginner consists in a coursebook, a workbook, a teacher’s guide and audio CDs.

COURSEBOOK: It’s divided into 10 units, each of which contains 5 sections. (See notes above with details of
what is included and omitted in the 2017 Syllabus). There is a Grammar Reference section at the back of the
book with exercises that we recommend. The coursebook comes with a DVD with videos, MP3 files of the
class audio and wordlists. (There are also Class Audio CDs cases available.)
There are two kinds of videos: Vox Pop, and Documentaries and Interviews (Coursebook Section 5 of every
unit). Vox Pop Videos are found in the coursebook DVD. The Teacher’s instructions and student’s worksheets
can be found in the Teacher’s Guide (pages 220 - 227). Coursebook Section 5 videos are also found in the
couesebook DVD. The exercises for section 5 videos are found in the coursebook.

WORKBOOK: It includes an audio CD. Encourage your students to use it for further listening practice. All
the workbook copies available are without key. They will be found at www.oup.com/elt/teachersclub as from
April.

NOTE: Teachers are free to choose the exercises from the review pages, tests and workbook which they
consider more relevant or useful according to each group. Take into account the sections omitted when
selecting the exercises.

TEACHER’S GUIDE: We recommend the use of the Teacher's Guide, which will guide you throughout the
course. It comes with Teacher’s Support and Resource Disc and Photocopiable Materials.
+ The Resource Disc contains very useful material: Lesson Overview Videos, Photocopiable activities, Vox Pop
video worksheets, Tests and Tests audio files, Wordlists, Audio and Video Scripts
+ The Photocopiable Material at the end of the Teacher’s Guide (p.174) (also found in the Resource Disc as
Photocopiable Activities) includes Grammar, Vocabulary and Communication Activities that you may select to
use with your group according to their needs/skills and the time you have.

WRITING: Types of writing: see 2017 Types of writing for Teens and Adults on our web site.
For further practice you may consult ‘Reading & Writing Targets 1’,by V.Evans

EXTENSIVE READING: We suggest you start with "Kidnap" in August when your students will have acquired
more knowledge of the language. We advise you to deal with the activities at the end of each chapter. We
recommend you to use the CDROM that accompanies the book to listen to the dramatized audio recording to help
students to further develop their listening skills. Students will find lots of interactive activities in the same
CDROM.

Please help your students develop their reading skills by encouraging them to read the story and exploit it
through different activities. By no means should you give them just a summary to study by heart.

For further grammar practice you may consult ´Grammar Spectrum 1’ (Elementary) by K. Paterson and M.
Harrison, ‘Oxford Practice Grammar’ (Basic) by Coe, Harrison and Paterson, ‘Macmillan English Grammar in
Context’ (Essential) by S. Clarke and ´Essential Grammar in Use’ (Elementary) by R. Murphy.

FINAL EXAMS CONSIDERATIONS: Simple Past Tense will only be tested in Part A of the Written exam, it will not
be included in Part B (Writing). However, you should give your students the writing exercises including past tense which
appear in the book. As for the Oral exam, students will be asked a few questions using Past Tense in Part A, but not in Part
B (Reader).
