Title: Educational Foundations and Issues in Education
Topic: Equity in the Provision of Schooling
Bridge-In

Teacher provides a question prompt to students that says, “What is Singing Sandra suggesting about our education system?” She
then shows the video clip of the local calypsonian singing about issues in the Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) education system. The
teacher receives a few responses and states the topic and objectives of the session.
Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, learners will:

1. Define equity
2. Consider the degree of equity that exists in T&T’s education system by juxtaposing local occurrences with international
practices
3. Propose solutions for achieving equity in T&T
Pre-Assessment Materials

The teacher presents a statement for students to ponder and asks if they are familiar with terms ‘equity’ and -
‘quality’ being used in reference to education.

Summary

The teacher states what was done in the lesson and recaps the key words, linking them to one of the course assignments. Learners
compare their post assessment responses to the summary.
