The following are the latest updates from the Local Arrangements Committee.

1. VENUE

The Symposium will be held at Education Hall, in the Science Centre of the Sabah Museum
Complex, Jalan Muzium, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.

Sabah Museum is located around 3 km from the central business district of Kota Kinabalu,
and is a 15 minute drive northeast from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), the
gateway to Borneo.

Located on the west coast of Sabah (formerly North Borneo), KKIA is the second busiest
airport in Malaysia, and receives direct international flights from Brunei Darussalam, Manila,
Perth, Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Busan, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Fuzhou, Guangzou,
Hangzou, Shenzhen, Wuhan and Taipei, as well as local flights from Kuala Lumpur
(Malaysia’s capital), Penang, Johor Baru, Kota Bharu, Kudat, Lahad Datu, Sandakan,
Tawau, Kuching, Bintulu, Miri, Limbang, Sibu, and Labuan.
2. TRANSPORTATION FROM AIRPORT
The taxi fare from KKIA to the Kota Kinabalu CBD is around RM 30 during the day or RM 45
at night. Taxis, grab-cabs, uber and local buses are available in the city.

During the Symposium, daily bus transportation will be arranged for participants from
central locations in the city centre to the Museum (see below).

3. SYMPOSIUM REGISTRATION FEES

(includes symposium kit, breakfast (Asian breakfast with tea and coffee), 2 coffee breaks
and buffet lunch for 6 days)

Please note registration deadlines: before 1 May (early bird), and 30 June (regular)

Online registration is compulsory for all participants and presenters before the due dates,
even if paying cash at the venue. Participants and presenters not registered online will be
charged the walk-in rate of RM 190 per day.

After you have registered online, please wait for confirmation of your registration. If you
have not received it within 7 days, please contact the Secretariat.

4. BUS PICK-UP POINTS DURING SYMPOSIUM

Buses will be provided to transport participants to and from the Symposium venue. Planned
pick-up points are as follows:

(i) Marina Court Resort Apartments

(ii) Promenade Hotel

(iii) Bus stop in front of Sacred Heart Cathedral, opposite Tang Dynasty Park Hotel
(accessed by walk-way above traffic).

These pick-up points will depend on the numbers of participants staying nearby. Additional
points may be included if there are large numbers staying at other places.
5. ACCOMMODATION

Kota Kinabalu offers a wide range of accommodation from upmarket resorts and hotels, to
simple B&B backpackers’ accommodation. Participants must book and pay for their own
accommodation.

(Note: Breakfast will be provided at the Museum venue.)

Bookings can easily be made through Agoda.com, Booking.com, Hotels.com, Traveloka.com

and other websites which usually offer cheaper rates than standard hotel quotations. Please
inform the LAC about the hotel where you plan to stay, for transportation purposes.

Considering the large influx of tourists to Kota Kinabalu at the present time, the Local
Arrangements Committee has approached two hotels to allocate rooms for Symposium
participants to book if they wish. The following are the rates offered.
