GREETINGS:
You have all previously received notice that PCL will hold its annual election for all fifteen (15)
Community Board seats on May 31, 2018.

 BALLOTS MAILED TO ELIGIBLE VOTERS: May 16, 2018

A. WHO MAY SERVE ON THE COMMUNITY BOARD

The Community Board has six (6) student members and – nine (9) non-student members.

1. Student Members -- six (6) seats.

a. Student Members. Student Members are “registered” students “in good standing
pursuant to the rules of the Corporation” (see, By-Laws of Peoples College of Law, ratified May 22, 2017
(“By-Laws”) §4.11(a)).

b. Student Members may be nominated only by other Student Members. (By-Laws § 8.2)

2. Community Members—nine (9) seats.

a. Community Members. Community members are “persons other than Student Members,
including Alumni Members, Faculty Members and [other] persons in the community” who have
“demonstrated commitment to the goals and purposes of PCL (i.e., progressive social change advocates).”
(emphasis supplied). (See, By-Laws § 8.2).

b. Community Members must be nominated by a Member of the Corporation (see below). 1

B. WHO MAY VOTE

1. For Student Nominees: Students (By-Laws § 6.1)

2. For Community Member Nominees: Members of the Corporation (By-Laws § 6.2)

a. The following are considered Members of the Corporation: 1. Student Members; 2. Faculty
Members; 3. Alumni Members; 4. Community Board Members; 5. Ex-Officio Officer Members; and
6. Current employees of the Corporation. (By-Laws Section 3.5) 2

If you believe there are other individuals who are Members of the Corporation (and thus have voting rights)
who are not addressees of this e-mail, please immediately notify Magda Madrigal, Secretary of the
Corporation, by e-mail at magdamadrigal@earthlink.net.

C. HOW TO NOMINATE AN INDIVIDUAL FOR THE COMMUNITY BOARD


(All Members, Student and Non-Student)

1. The Election Committee (John Cromshow, Hector Sanchez and Christine Siegel) has determined to accept
nominations in the following ways:

2. All candidate nominations shall include current contact information for the candidate, i.e., full name,
street address, phone number and e-mail address. No nomination without this information will be
considered.

3. No nomination received after 6:30 p.m. April 30, 2018 will be considered.

D. CANDIDATE STATEMENTS

1. The Committee will work with the Secretary to check the nominees against the PCL Secretary’s
membership list to ensure eligibility for the Board as per By-Law § 9.6(c).

2. Candidates will be notified by e-mail of their nominations, no later than 7:30 p.m. April 30, 2018.

3. All candidates must submit a “statement regarding who they are and why they want to serve on
the PCL community board” which is no more than one-half of an 8-1/2 inch by 11 inch document (By-
Laws § 9.2(c); referred to elsewhere herein as “candidate statement(s)”)

4. Candidate Statements must be submitted to the Election Committee by mail, fax or e-mail, as
specified in Section C.1 above to ensure receipt by 6:30 p.m. on May 7, 2018.

5. All Candidate Statements will be posted at PCL from 7:00 p.m. May 7, 2018 through May 31,
2018, and will also be e-mailed to all Members of the Corporation.

E. BALLOTS AND NOTICE OF ELECTION MAILED TO ALL PCL COMMUNITY MEMBERS:


May 16, 2018

Per By-Law § 9.3(a), voting must be by “secret ballot either by mail or in person at the Corporation”.
Thus, ballots will be mailed to all voting members on May 16, 2018, and will also be available at PCL for
in-person voting on May 31, 2018.

F. ELECTION

2 By-Law Section 4.14 provides that, during the “term of Community Board service” a Community Board Member
“shall be a Member of the Corporation.”

1. Voting in Person: Ballots will be available at PCL between 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. May 31, 2018.

2. Voting by Mail: Completed ballots may be mailed to PCL, but must be received at PCL by May 31,
2018.

Additional instructions for voting by mail may be provided when ballots are mailed to the Members.
