first before giving the real meaning of the
topic.
2. The teacher encourages the students to

3. She also gives the students they own tasks
for example, one student’s task is to
distribute paper.

1. It’s a good strategy because it helps us know
and test their prior knowledge about the
lesson that they will discuss. And it also
engages the student in participating during
the lesson.
2. Based on what I have observed during the
class, it was effective for the students
because they can review what they are
learning and to also help them remember
easily.
3. It trains the students become more
responsible with the task that they have and
also be able to help their teacher. This kind
of strategy also helps classroom
management in a point that whenever they
will have an activity, the flow will be
smooth and the students cooperates.

1. It was my first day of teaching and it better
than I expected.
2. The students suddenly asked to go to the toilet
all at once.
3. During our class, I notice that our students
were very active and sometimes becomes a
mess.

1. It was a big challenge for me because it was
my first time teaching real primary students.
Although I was worried, I was glad because I
was able to deliver the lesson properly.
2. I had a thought that they were just making an
excuse to go outside. However, I still
managed to control them by asking them to
honestly tell me who really needs to go to the
toilet. And I think because I used the word
“honestly” some of them did not raise their
hand anymore. And let the students who really
wanted to pee to go one at a time.
3. Again, I was tested on how I’ll manage the
class in this kind of situation. What I did is I
applied one of their rules in class that when a
teacher raises their hand it means that they
need to stop what they are doing and listen to
the teacher. And as a response the students
will raise both of their hands as a sign that
they are ready to listen.

1. We celebrated one of my cooperating
teacher’s birthday.
2. Today, I became more firm with my
instructions and gave them hand gestures and
time limits with what they are doing.
3. Today my cooperating teacher told me that it
is better for them to give a time limit or count
at them when I want them to do something.

1. Even though we sacrificed some of the
period’s time, it was a good time because it
made our relationship with each other and
with the students grow closer. And even
though it was not for me, it made me feel like
I am really part of their class/family.
2. I learned that sometimes even though I tell
them to be quite a lot of times they won’t still
listen. However, by raising my hand as a sign
of be quiet helped us be organized. And
because they are still young they tend to play
more, so every time they have an activity I
give them a time limit so that they can focus
only on their work.
3. Since most of the class are all boys most of
them are very playful and does not really pay
attention when I just tell them to do
something (sitting properly) but counting to
them 1-5 or giving them a time limit works
well because they are competitive and likes
competitions.

1. Today most of our students were not present
in class because of the Chinese New Year,
but they still participated well during the
class.
2. My teacher only took half a day of class
because she was not feeling well, so I was
with the class the whole afternoon. Even
though Ibu Febry was there, she is just quite
at the back and letting me handle the class so
that I will learn to put classroom
management.
3. Today I started checking the activities from
their past lessons that my co-teacher haven’t
checked.

1. I learned that our students maybe naughty or
playful in nature but they are still able to
apply respect to their teachers and listens
well in class.
2. I know from the very start that it is going to
be challenging for me, specially that it is our
first week of practicum. Even though I was
worried, I still continued with the plan and
did my lesson for today. I was glad that even
though they were naughty at some point it
was not too much and was able to control
them. I take this experience for me as a
learning and good experience that helped me
learn how to manage class better.
3. Since the worksheets was piled up into a big
group of papers, it felt tired already just by
looking at it. It was really tiring and makes
your neck hurt, after that situation, I realized
that I should not stock up the activities that
the students answers. Instead check it right
away so the work will be as heavy when all
the papers are piled up.

1. Today my co-teacher was not feeling
well so I was alone during the first 3
subjects of our class.
2. Today I continued checking the rest of
the papers.
3. Today my students were asking me
personal questions such as my age, my
social media and such.

1. Unlike before that I was so worried without
my cooperating teacher, I am more
comfortable now in handling them alone. As
the days passed during the first week my
relationship with the students is better so they
were more cooperative and behaved. They
also listen to me well while I am talking.
2. It was a good thing because I did not have a
lot of things to do today so I had enough time
to finish all the papers that is left to check.
3. I thought at first that it would be friendly of
me if I answer all their questions but at the
same time I wanted them to see me as their
teacher not just their friend. And I also
thought that it was not necessary/appropriate
for me to tell them those things so I told them
that it’s a secret and they don’t need to know.

students.

1. Since it was PE, we did a lot of physical
exercise. This helped me get closer to some
of the boys in our class because I get to help
them during the exercise. We also finished
ahead of time so we decided to play
dodgeball, through this game I saw how
competitive some of our students are and the
ones who is humble when they won and lost
the game.
2. This is when I proved that words really are
powerful. Because of those simple words that
Ibu Febri told me I gained more self-
confidence which helped me a lot all
throughout the day because I don’t feel too
nervous and worried. And I feel more at ease
when I am infront of my students.

1. Today they had a spelling competition and
we went there to support our students along
with their classmates.
2. Their classmates who is not a participant in
the competition cheers them up.
3. After the competition, we went back to class
and continued with our lesson. Today I
taught them English again and they had a
group work.

1. Just by showing a simple moral support and
just being there cheering up to the students
made more way for me to get closer to them.
And seeing them doing well in competition
also makes me proud that they are in our
class.
2. Just by these simple things, I can see that the
student’s relationship with each other is very
close and helps them grow more in
socializing with other people.
3. I decided to make them do a group activity
because the students who are fast learners
can help their members who is slow learners.
And I can say that it was effective because I
can hear them discussing to each other and
learning from each other.

1. Today we did arts, it was messy because of
the paints but it was still fun!
2. My cooperating teachers and students
surprised me and made a Pizza party before I
go home tomorrow.

How does this connect to the theory I have read from
class?)
1. I know that it was normal to be a little messy
while doing arts but I still reminded our
students some reminders of what to do and
not to do before we started doing the actual
activity so that it will be less messy.
However, one of my students still did not
listen and suddenly put too much paint on his
paper plate. I was surprised, but I’m glad
because I managed to correct him in a calm
and good way. After that, I also reminded
everyone to ask permission first before they
do something.
2. Through this kind of action/surprise that they
did, it made me feel appreciated and loved. I
was also surprised because boys in our class
doesn’t really like this kind of things but they
still participated and contributed. It was fun
and good memory to keep.

1. Today is my last day of teaching and at the
same time my final evaluation.
2. Today in the middle of our class something
happened in the school and we were told to
keep the students inside.
3. The time finally came where Dr. Spanogle
will evaluate me during my lesson.

Reflections & Critical Response

connect to the theory I have read from class?)
1. I was sad thinking that this is the last day of
my teaching practicum and worried at the
same time because I will be evaluated today.
But thanks to my co-teachers who kept on
encouraging me, I gained more confidence
and my students were more behaved.
2. As a person, I personally felt scared because
of what happened. But thinking about the
safety of our students I needed to stay strong
and brave for them. So, I gathered all of them
inside the room and let them play inside too
because it was already break time we also
told them just to eat inside the class. Since
most of them are in the stage of being
curious, they were asking why are we doing
it. However, we cannot tell them directly the
reason so we just tell them that it is for their
own good and safety.
3. During the first part of my teaching it was
going well. However, when we reached the
middle part where they do some activities,
they became messier and the students were
everywhere around the classroom. I realized
that on that day, I was too focused on
completing what’s in my lesson plan and
ignored the way my students behaved. Which
made me remind myself not to do the same
again.
