5 mins Beginning the Lesson
1. Start the class by showing some pictures with different kind of emotions such us happy,
sad, angry, worried etc.
2. Tell the class that today they will learn about using voice in their reading.

Developing the Lesson


20 mins 1. Ask the class what comes to their mind when they read “Voice”
- After hearing their answers, tell them the exact meaning of Voice in reading.
 VOICE is expressing an emotion in your/their writing and reading.
2. Introduce the key qualities of Voice Traits
 The tone fits the purpose and the audience.
 The writer makes a powerful connection with the reader.
 The writing is expressive.
 The writing takes risk.
 The piece shows an excitement and energy about the topic.
- Remind them that as they write, they should always think about the readers and the
emotion that you want them to feel. And the voice in your writing needs to fit the purpose
of your writing.

Closing the Lesson


10 mins - Make them do an activity:
 Give them magazines that has many pictures with people’s faces.
 Put the students into pairs and give each pair magazine, scissors, glue and paper.
 Instruct them to cut out images of people with different emotions and glue it in
their papers.
 Tell them to cut out letters for their title and glue it in the paper.
 After that, ask the students to give/state the emotions that they used; by pairs.
