Introduction Vibration readings were recorded on vertical pumps at Waste water pumping station, Sowah Island, Abu Dhabi, on 12 October 2011. This vibration recording and analysis was carried out as per request from GMES Dubai & KSB Pumps Abu Dhabi. Recorded readings were analyzed and compared against industry acceptance criteria Hydraulic Institute. 2. Vibration Analyzer Used Pruftechnik, Germany make vibration analyzer model VIBXPERT with accelerometer model VIB 6.142R was used to record the vibration readings. OMNITREND software was used for analysis and report generation. 3. Locations Measurements were taken in 3 directions (vertical, horizontal and axial) each on all measurement points I! locations. 4, Discussion and Results Pump #1 Overall values has been recorded between 600 to 60,000 CPM range as per H.I. guidelines and spectrums between 120 to 60,000 CPM with 800 lines of resolution. High frequency spectrum been recorded to identify the fauit frequencies at high frequency region. High frequency envelop spectrum has been recorded to identify bearing fault frequencies if any FFT spectrum reveals high amplitude peaks at 1488.75 CPM at motor outboard vertical direction measuring 46.09 mm/sec RMS and 2981 CPM with 3.70 mm/sec RMS. Similar phenomena seen also at the horizontal direction as well with 1X predominant peaking with 17.69 mm/sec RMS Motor drive end bearings show low amplitude values with multiple running speed of motor, but comparatively low values (Ref: Appendix 1) seas SUL TAEAT ORIN § (814) La pele P.O Box 23211, Dubai, U.AE., Tel. But from Phase analysis it was found that there was no looseness oF unbalance in the motor pump machine / system. Bump test was performed on motor outboard and inboard directions. The Frequency Response Funetion plot shows natural frequencies of motor lies exactly at operating speed of the machine of 1488 rpm. So the forces in the machine are leading to excitation of the natural frequency of the machine and causing resonance with high amplitude value. As itis a vertical motor the machine condition is similar to a tuning fork producing high resonant frequency in both the directions. ‘Also on observation it was found that one of the feet had a slight soft foot condition, but was definitely not the major factor leading to such high vibration. The motor rotor speed in the system is the issue. There are several options to consider in this assessment - 1 The most present solution is to make the pump's concrete base more rigid, and secure to the building foundation. This will decrease the building and system natural frequency moving it away from that of the motor. By adding additional supports to the pump set and building structure the natural frequency of the motor can be reduced. This will move the driving frequency of the motor away from that of the structure and system reducing vibration levels. Adding or removing a dynamic mass on the resonant part is another option, but not suitable for our situation. This requires adding active vibration control system which will make vibration phase opposite cancelling the effects of the motors driving frequency. A part solution would be to fully support the incoming pipework and reduce the mass / or load transferred to the pump set. This will increase the natural frequency of the pump / motor combination away from the system / building natural frequency thereby reducing vibration. Isolating the incoming pipework from each other would also change the natural frequency of the piping system and will also affect the natural frequency of the building and system. Itis noted there have been some changes made on site by the client and these have been in the correct direction. However heavier alterations are seen as providing more significant results compared to the minor structural alterations made to date. NOTE -> Based on the collected data, the system natural frequency falls, cPM ES 4400- 1560 Email : sales@vibspectrum.com, ww. vibspectrum.com Po,-dugu JAuLAL0 g JAI JU guibl silo Asus ih, ”"VIBSPECTRUM INTERNATIONAL ELECTROMECHANICAL L Lc op VIBSpECTRUM GROUP Vibration Analysis Report Report No VIB/VAR/121011 Issue Date: 17-10-2011 Appendix-Ill FFT Spectrum NDE Vertical v ms {mvs} [G_1\ Motor \MOV\1 119 High Resin Spect 120 CPM to 24 KCPM 6400 line 18 a mh | 1 | PM 1493 (24.88H2) 7 1: 1488.75 opm (1.00 Ode | [Mg 16.09 le e000 10000 12000 © 14000 16000 6000 Email : sales @vibspectrum.com, www. vibspectrum.com VIBSpECTRUM GROUP NDE Horizontal vims mm/s} ‘G 1\ Motor \Mi 2077 \ iat} a 2000 P.O Box 233211, Dubai, U.AE., Tel.
