1 Objective
An easy to use utility to generate the differential operating & harmonic restraint characteristic of a Siemens
7UT512 relay in the OMICRON Test Universe software.
2 Principle of Operation/Limitations
The Siemens 7UT512 is a combined differential & over-current relay.
This converter was developed to only test the differential part of the relay. To test the differential part of the
relay the over-current element must be disabled before testing can commence.
This utility caters for relays with both version 2.x and version 3.x firmware. The operating characteristic of
relays with V 2.x firmware only have one fixed slope of 0.25 p.u., whereas relays with V 3.x firmware have two
independent slopes, the slope of each being separately settable.
Note: If there is an existing file with the same filename, the converter will overwrite this file without prompting
the user.
Note: To recall the saved settings just launch the saved Excel spreadsheet from the Explorer, i.e. double
click on the saved Excel file.
Note: An inherent time for the relay tripping times was added; This time will be added to the actual relay
timer setting. If this function is not required the field ‘Relay Added Triptime’ in the ‘Settings’ worksheet
should be set to zero.
• Start a new OMICRON Control Center (OCC) document (or Open an existing OCC document).
• Insert a new Test Object Manager (Inset / Test Object) (or Open the existing Test Object Manager).
• Click on ‘Import’.
• Browse and select the RIO file just generated: The file name is composed of the substation name,
transformer name and ‘Relay_7UT512’. It is by default saved in the ‘Test Objects_RIO’ directory,
which is the default directory to which the Import function points.
• Click on ‘Open’, which will import the relay settings and characteristics into the OCC document.
Macro security of MS Excel must be set to medium. If it is set to high security all macros will automatically be
disabled.
To set the macro security for Microsoft® Excel 2000 the following steps must be taken:
1. Select on Tools, Macro and then Security - Figure 7.
2. Select ‘Medium’ and accept the changes by clicking on ‘OK’ - Figure 8.
