Chapter 1
Overview of the Status
Management Functions
The status management is a function of the operation and maintenance subsystem.
The management function facilitates the up-level service debugging, on-site installation
and debugging and the fault analysis. Through status management, maintenance and
technical personnel can quickly locate faults.
The status management manages the dynamic data in the system, including the functions
of queries, monitoring and operations.
l Queries on dynamic data: are implemented in man-machine interactive mode to
obtain status data.
l Monitoring on dynamic data: displays the real time changes on dynamic data.
l Operations on dynamic data: are implemented in man-machine interactive mode to
perform the following actions: block/unblock, reset/forcible reset, enable/disable and
stop/start.
Status management is a multi-aspect and multi-module function that involves database
operations, MO operations on NEs, communication between NEs and BSCs, and
operations on BSCs. The following needs to be noted in the status management.
l Status management manages the terrestrial and radio resources with status
properties. The resources without status properties are not shown in the status
management interface.
l Status management modifies the status of terrestrial and radio resources with status
properties on a BSC. The operation must be initiated on a BSC. The communication
between the BSC and NEs must operate properly.
l The operation of status management may affect the status of terrestrial and radio
resources and thus affect the conversation quality. Be careful when performing the
management operations.
l The BSCenvironment has a great influence on status management. Any error during
the BSC operations may cause failure during status management operations.
