Professional Practice Interview & Critical Reflection Statement

(Total 50 marks: Part 1 - 20 marks, Part 2 - 20 marks, Scholarly Work - 10 marks)

This assessment item has two parts that are to be submitted via EASTS. Part 1 of the assessment item requires
you to conduct a professional practice audio interview with an accredited school teacher (a primary or secondary
school teacher). Part 2 of the assessment item requires you to prepare a critical reflection and analysis of the
audio interview responses.

Part 1: Professional Practice Audio Interview

(15 minutes maximum, 5-7 interview questions, 20 marks)

How do I prepare for the Audio Interview?
The Professional Practice Audio Interview with an accredited school teacher (primary or secondary teacher) will
be a 15 minutes maximum interview (10 minutes minimum and 15 minutes maximum) that will be recorded as an
mp3 (or similar) digital file using a smartphone device, a tablet device, a computer device or a digital recording
device. The mp3 (or similar) digital file will be submitted via EASTS in a separate file as Part 1 of your
assessment item one package (Part 1 and Part 2).

The professional practice interview will be conducted using 5 to 7 questions in total (5 questions minimum and 7
questions maximum) that you prepare in advance about five areas of professional practice. Your draft interview
questions must be submitted to your subject coordinator via email for formal endorsement prior to conducting the
interview (and at least seven days prior to the assessment item one due date).

Which professional practice areas will my audio interview questions focus on?
The interview questions you prepare for endorsement will provide you with one professional teacher’s
perspectives about the following five areas of professional practice:

1. the key roles and responsibilities of a professional teacher in the classroom and in the profession
2. the distinguishing features of a successful teacher
3. how the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers are supporting teachers’ professional teaching
and learning
4. effective teaching and learning strategies that address the diversity of learners and differentiated
learning needs in the classroom
5. the influences on teaching and learning of the Australian Curriculum and 21st century teaching and
learning approaches.

Part 2: Critical Reflection Statement (2000 words, 20 marks)

What is the purpose of the Critical Reflection Statement?

Your Critical Reflection Statement will allow you to analyse* and critically reflect* upon the responses you have
obtained through your audio interview with a professional teacher. You will use your own professional studies in
this subject to undertake this analysis and critical reflection in a scholarly formal essay. You will submit the
Critical Reflection Statement in a separate Part 2 .doc or .docx word file (not in pdf or other format) to EASTS as
part of the Assessment Item 1 package (Part 1 and Part 2).
