Call for competition

"3 minutes thesis"

A "3 minutes" presentation session of master and PhD thesis works is organized on the occasion of
the "France-Cambodia Research Days" (FCRD) in order to encourage students and fresh graduates to
present their research work in a very synthetic way.

A contest will reward


the best thesis presentation in 3 minutes

The awards ceremony will take place during the closing session of the FCRD. The winner will receive a
prize of 500 USD and a certificate of achievement from the Embassy of France. The name of the
winner and the summary of his thesis will be advertised on the communication media of the event.
Guidelines

Eligibility
This competition is open to all students and young researchers under 40 years old in Cambodia,
enrolled in Master's or PhD programs or graduated less than 3 years ago.

Pre-selection
Candidates for the "3 Minutes Thesis" contest will submit an application file including:

1. the following information: surname, first name, title of the thesis, name of the supervisors,
University of registration, date and place of thesis defence (planned or completed).

2. a short CV (maximum one page).

3. an abstract, written in French or in English, not exceeding three hundred (300) words (Calibri 11,
paragraph justified).

4. an illustrated presentation (in PPT format) of the thesis work (maximum 5 slides) showing:
• the research problem,
• the essential characteristics of the research in progress or completed,
• the key points and main results,
• their interpretation,
• the conclusions and perspectives of the thesis work.

Application files must be sent by email (in .zip format) to: concours.jrfc@gmail.com before
Thursday, March 1st, 2018.

Candidates will receive a selection (or non-selection) email no later than Thursday, March 8, 2018.

Oral presentation
The 6 selected candidates will present their work orally on March 29th and 30th, 2018.

The contest "3 Minutes Thesis" allows candidates to present their research topic in simple terms to a
diverse audience. In 3 minutes each participant will give a clear, concise and convincing presentation
of his or her research topic. This competition is an opportunity for participants to perfect their
communication skills and to disseminate their research in the public space.

The oral presentation may be made in French or English, with no accessories other than note sheets.

If they wish, candidates may accompany their presentation with a visual (maximum 3 slides in PPT
format).
Evaluation
The qualities of scientific popularization, oral communication in a scientific language and the
involvement of the candidate will be evaluated by an independent jury.

The jury will be strict about the size and format of the documents that will be received.
