infer – to take something you see (form an opinion) and combine it with something you already know to come up with a conclusion (reading
between the line)

theme – the moral, message, or lesson that the author wants you to learn from the story

dialogue – a conversation that happens between characters in a story

explicit – to give information that is very clear and complete

thinking – the process of using one’s own mind to consider or reason about something

Narrative Writing – any kind of writing that tells a story-it starts with a strong topic sentence and focuses on the most important
information (This type of writing should have characters, a setting, dialogue, a plot, and a problem and solution.)

Informative Writing – gives facts to teach about a topic; informative writing defines, describes, explains, and tells why or how about a topic

Opinion Writing – this writing tells what you think, what you believe, or how you feel about something

integrate – to combine or bring together

propaganda – ideas or statements that are often false or exaggerated and that are spread in order to persuade a person to follow a cause, a
political leader, or government
