Title of Learning Segment: Introduction to Fashion Plate Design

Grade: Intro to Art

Prior Knowledge: drawing, pattern recognition, aesthetic inventory, collage

Central Focus: The student will create a collage inventory to guide their garment design.

Learning Segment Overview Four lessons (45 minute)

Lesson 1 (Day 1)
 Present fashion plate pallets
 Demo how to make clothing out of collage materials
 Demo how to transfer design and remind students of opposite transfer result
 Seek and find patterns and ideas with magazines

Lesson 2 (Days 2-3)


 Quick demo on design clothes
 Perhaps (if time allows) introduce students to 2 fashion designers that target different
types of cliental
 Allow students time to work on their ideas and fashion plate

Lesson 3 (Day 4)
 Demo to students how to matt fashion plate
 Review with students why presentation can change the vision of the viewer. Remind
them that this is part of positive marketing.
 Finalize fashion plate
 Prepare fashion plate to be matted and hung

Lesson 4 (Day 5)
 Informal assessment with students sharing their fashion plates
