Motivation Letter

Since I was in first semester at midwifery department, I believe that midwives have
important roles in supporting and helping mother and child. I am willing to learn more
about midwifery, in order to be a professional midwife in the future. Because of my
passion for providing mother and child health care, I want to continue my study to be a
professional health provider. Besides, I want to continue delivering my knowledge to my
students, as I think that educating them is a great investment for future development.
Infant and maternal mortality rates in Indonesia especially in Aceh is under MDGs
standards. Many efforts need to be taken to achieve these standards, including provide
education for health worker, especially in midwifery major. There are many midwives at
various departments that have to improve and continue their study, with the ultimate goal
to improve the quality of midwifery services in Aceh. With further study I hope I can
participate in Aceh’s government program to improve midwifery services accordance with
international standards.
In Aceh from 2000 until now, there are more than 30 midwifery academies spreads
of every area. Every academy has graduated at least 50 midwives per year. There are
some professional and competent lecturers at midwife field. Moreover, in order to produce
professional midwife, we need professional lecturer to teach them.
One of big challenges I found that it is sad knowing that most of medical students
nowadays are poor communication skills. They are rarely hold effective and proper
communication as what is need if they are becoming health counselor in the future. So I
keep encourage them and provide good example that in order to be a highly motivated
and a professional midwife, we need have good way of communication. I had followed
some trainings in communication and consultation, such as consultation for HIV/AIDS and
reproduction health for teen. So I encourage my students to do so as I believe my
communication skill can lead me to be a professional health care provider. Therefore, I
keep motivating my students to enhance their ability in communication, in order to form
high quality midwives in providing promotion and education health for patients.
I have various activities at campus. I spend weekdays and sometimes, I have to
work extra at weekend. My regular activities are teaching at class, coaching my students
at midwifery laboratory, develop lesson plans theory or practice, creating job sheets and
hand out for my students, looking for teaching materials, updating my teaching materials,
and supervising students course work project.
As Head of Midwifery Department of Diploma IV, I have to be responsible and
accountable for setting and advancing the academic strategy of the Department in line
with College strategic goals. I take responsibility in developing and sustaining appropriate
structures for management, consultation, decision-making and communication with staff
and student. In addition, I have to be proactive in enhancing and developing the quality
of the students’ learning experience and the quality of teaching. Moreover, during my
responsibility in managing and teaching I do research project in different topic for each
semester.
I have been involved in volunteer work since couple last years. I have joined the
institution for almost three years and I always participate for all programs of Rumah Zakat.
Some of the programs are free treatment for the poor and victims, education care for
abandoned and orphaned children, and also volunteer first aid training. I gain experiences
from field work, which I made an impression on. Abandoned, orphaned and victims really
appreciate for the aids we provided. In previous employment at “Putroe Phang” clinic, I
used to do clinical care and treatment including serving in pregnancy, delivery,
postpartum, well woman's health, newborn, and primary care. Beside my clinical
responsible, I also take role in health promotion, disease prevention, health education
and counseling, and helping patients make wise health and lifestyle choices.
In rural areas in Aceh, women’s issues receive less attention, particularly in health
education. Therefore, women tend to refuse suggestions about healthy living, especially
in reproductive health. If I have chance to pursue my postgraduate, I will keen to learn
about empowering women in order to make and support them to be more concern on
their health, particularly regarding their health reproduction.
After graduating, I will come back to Aceh and apply my skills by coaching midwife
students and providing education to women in marginalized areas. In community, I want
to spread my inspiration about the empowerment of women by volunteering at “Rumah
Zakat”. Additionally, I plan to make social activities in rural area with my colleagues, such
as train for health volunteer, forming health care group of women, and health education
for youth.
I strongly feel that undertaking a degree master of midwifery will develop my
overview. I have plan to work with research based groups in midwifery sector as well as
in local universities to improve research and human resource capacity building through
training. My future potential ability especially in public sector such as local universities and
research health organisations will be a good area where I can transfer the knowledge
gained in an optimized manner to my country and future generations.
In future, I will strive to be a tremendous asset for Aceh Government by devoting
all my time and life to becoming an excellent midwife and lecturer. I believe that I am
obligated to use my talents in a constructive manner, in a manner that benefits society.
Postgraduate study of midwifery will give me the unique opportunity to express my talents
while benefiting human life.

However, I am aware that pursuing master degree as an international student at

Tehran University of Medical Science must be academically capable and have sufficient
financial support. In terms of financial matter, I have to admit that I have a very limited
and strict budget for covering the other half of my tuition fee as well as living cost at Iran
such dormitory, food, electricity payment. Additionally, I have to meet other basic
academic needs such as buying books, printing and photocopy material, etc.
Having said that, I wholeheartedly request and apply to the University to be able to
increase my scholarship to cover all needs while studying at your university. The
opportunity to get 50% off of my tuition fee is good chance for me, but as I mentioned
above, I really appreciate if committee decides to increase my scholarship at TUMS.
Please kindly refer to my current and future desire and enthusiasm in continue further
study.
