Career Goals and About Me

My name is Samantha Abarca and I am currently a senior at El Capitan High School. I

consider myself to be a passionate and self-motivated student. My academic performance is a

reflection of my work ethic. I make it a priority to ask questions in class when necessary and

actively study before tests. Furthermore, I have been driven to challenge myself academically by

taking 2 honors classes and 5 AP courses during junior and senior year. I have been able to attain

CSF Life Membership Status and maintain above a 4.00 GPA throughout high school.

Aside from having high academic performance, I have been actively involved in

extracurriculars and community service. During high school, I took part in two clubs, KIWINS

and Band Council. As for community service involvement, most of it has been at Farmdale

Elementary School as a classroom assistant during the summer. I have able to help younger

students in other areas as well, such as music, because of my extensive experience from

participating in band. I have been apart of several performance groups in my high school’s music

program which include: Jazz Band, Marching Band, Concert Band, and Percussion. Although I

love music, I do not plan to pursue it as a career since it has been more of a hobby of mine since

elementary school. However, I am aiming to use my experience working with elementary

students to become a kindergarten teacher in the future.

I plan to attend California State University Stanislaus in order to obtain my bachelor’s

degree in Liberal Studies. My dream is to become an elementary school teacher after graduating

from college, specifically a kindergarten teacher. I have great patience with younger students and
love seeing how they progress their learning. After getting my bachelor’s degree, I plan to enter

the Multiple Subject Credential Program to attain my teaching credential. While in the credential

program, I plan to complete the student teaching program, as well as begin my career by working

part-time as a teacher’s aide at an elementary school. Upon graduating from CSU Stanislaus, I

plan to begin teaching full-time.

With my experience of helping at an elementary school, I have become passionate about

becoming a teacher. I came to a conclusion that I wanted to pursue a career in teaching during

my sophomore year in high school. I realized I truly enjoyed teaching others and seeing students’

faces light up when they began to gain understanding of what they were learning. If I did not

have the experience as a classroom assistant, I would not have had the same passion as I do

today about teaching and helping those around me to become stronger and more capable in their

academic abilities.
