There was a study conducted from Emerging Technologies in Education. In was conducted for
four months on 246 primary students amongst 12 schools. There were 3 groups. Group 1 used
notes and textbook, group 2 used contemporary teaching method with no technology and group 3
used the application. Smartphones and tablets have increased opportunities for mobile learning.
It has increased motivation and gives more variety of learning material. An issue that has come
about is tablet-to-student ratio. Should the students be able to take the tablets home? It is
believed that allowing the students to take them home will better aid to their increasing ability to
learn. In the study, the students in each group took a test based on what they learned about plants
to determine if they had significant differences. All groups had the same knowledge level. A
result was that students who used tablets outperformed the others. This drew a conclusion that
tablets have a positive impact on learning and teaching. The use of tablets in education is an
educational issue. A solution could be that schools try to implement technology as frequent as
possible into their classrooms. Studies have shown that technology in the classroom has a
positive impact by motivated and engaging students in the learning process.

A study was conducted to test an intervention with elementary students to promote social and
emotional learning within technology. It included 5 Thai and 18 Cambodian students in a Thai
elementary classroom. They conducted a TEIST, which is Thai Emotional Intelligence Screening
Test, before and after 8 weeks of use of online animated stories, discussion forum, mind maps
and learning journal. The study was Thai vs. Cambodian and Male vs. Female. Only one of the
categories (Virtue, competence, and happiness) were affected by the intervention suggesting that
other aspects affect SEL (social emotional learning) competencies. Societal complexity has
caused an increase in programs created to support emotional and social development. emotional
and social development can affect academic performance. Emotions aid intelligence and shape
thinking through motivation and are socially constructed. Social and emotional learning
technology includes more that just technology such as activities, scaffolding, and social and
collaborative interactions. This is a social issue. A solution could be that when using technology
in the classroom, do not just have the students use them individually. Have them work together
to promote interaction and collaborative learning.

A study was done on the consequences of using text-matching software on teachers’ and
students’ ideas about plagiarism. The study was done on 85 teachers and 506 students via an
electronic questionnaire. Analysis was done by factor analysis, t-test, and content analysis. Text-
matching software is used by 83% of higher education institutions in out country. In the study,
students’ ideas on plagiarism that they believed were serious were not believed serious by
teachers and ideas they believed were not serious were believed serious by the teachers. Teachers
believed plagiarism as a slightly bigger problem than the students. Text-matching software has
impacted teachers’ work and beliefs in plagiarism. It has helped them explain the importance of
following conventions in academic writing and detect plagiarism easier. Though, some teachers
began to question how reliable the software is. Students do more plagiarism then they realize not
understanding how serious it is. The text-matching software influenced the students’ ideas on
plagiarism and academic writing. Students had better writing habits, realized the seriousness of
plagiarism and understood the necessity of the use of the system. This a legal/ethical issue being
that plagiarism is illegal being that its basic the act of stealing someone else’s work and using it
as your own. A solution for this can be that educators continuously remind and educate students
through their educational careers, about plagiarism and the negative effects that comes with it.
