Ghana on the west coast of Africa, was once called Gold Coast.The Potuguese came here in the 15th
century, the first Europeans to set foot isub-Saharan Africa , attracted by reporters of its fabulous gold
mines. They were not wrong. Even today, Ghana's Ashanti, it's largest ethnic group, load themselves with
exquisitely crafted gold jewellery during any celebration.
In 1957, Ghana became the first nation in Africa to gain independence from a colonial power, in
this case, Britain, Kramer Nkrumah, whose struggle for freedom inspired other African colonies,was its firt
President. Gold Coast was renamed Ghana. Within a few years,most of Africa was free from colonial rule.
Today Ghana is one of the most stable and prosperous of African nations.

Education is really a means to discover new things which we don't know about and increase our
knowledge. An educated person has the ability to differentiate between right and wrong or good and evil. It
is the foremost responsibility of a society to educate its citizens.A person becomes perfect with education
as he is not only gaining something from it, but also contributing to the growth of a nation.

Focus should be on women’s education because the knowledge and empowerment of one woman can
bring about a change in a family and even the society as a whole. It is the uneducated and illiterate people
who think women are not entitled to education.

PASSAGE NO-3
'Lal Bahadur Shastri' was born on 2nd October, 1904 at Mughal Sarai, Uttar Pradesh, India. His father's
name was Sharda Prasad, who was a school teacher and later became a clerk in the Revenue Office at
Allahabad. His mother's name was Ramdulari Devi. He was hardly an year old when he lost his father. After
the death of his father, his mother took him and his two sisters to her parent's house.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was educated at Mughalsarai and Varanaumsi. He graduated with a first-class degree
from the Kashi Vidyapeeth. He was given the title 'Shastri'. He offered Satyagraha and was sentenced to
imprisonment at different times. He joined the Indian independence movement in the 1921. He was deeply
impressed and influenced by Mahatma Gandhi. Lastly, India became independent on 15th August, 1947.
He became the second Prime Minister of India after Jawahar Lal Nehru.

Lal Bahadur Shastri showed rare quality of courage and determination during India-Pakistan war. He gave
a slogan 'Jai Jawan Jai Kissan'. He was the first person to be posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, A
memorial 'Vijay Ghat' was built for him in Delhi. Shastri was known for his honesty and humility throughout
his life. He died on 11th Jan, 1966 at Tashkent, USSR. Lal Bahadur Shastri was truly a great man who
gave less importance to himself.

On the 16th of June 1730 we discovered land .o Our captain sent a do zen men with vessels for water. If
any could be found. When we
came to land we saw

river
or ring nor any inhabitants. I went on to explore. The country was barren and rocky. I turned back to join the
crew, only too see them getting into the boat and rowing for life to get to the ship.
Before I could reach them I observed a huge creature walking after them in the sea as fast as he could.
The water of the
ocean reached till his knees! However,the monster was unable to overtake the speeding boat. I turned
back quicky and climbed up a steep hill with fields of barley on either side and and the corn rising upto forty
feet. There was a fence to pass from one field to the other.
