In the light of uplifting the quality of life and standards of living to contribute in

building a sustainable economy for all, the Team constantly look for the people who are
in dire need of help.

In the City of Dagupan ____ tons of food wastes were generated from public

markets every year and only 5 percent of the waste is recycled and re-used. In The single

most dominant issue for solid waste management (SWM) is the inadequacy of disposal

facilities. Presently, open dumping is still the most common waste disposal method as

controlled dumpsites and sanitary landfills (SLFs) are very limited. The opportunities

presented by this serious environmental problem to suppliers of solid waste

management products and equipment are enormous. The potential, however, is

tempered by inadequate funds, technical capability and lack of political will.

Moreover, the Team also found out that the main dumpsite in the City of

Dagupan has been suspended by Department of Energy? due to excess emission of

methane gas coming from tons of solid waste. If not taken into consideration, it will

result to improper waste management and will eventually encourage flies to live and to

produce which threaten the health of people in the community might as well as the

environment because of methane gas emission.

And so, the Team take this opportunity to create sustainable solution to uplift the

lives of drug surrenderees and bring hope to make a positive changes in the society.
Thus, the team in partnership with the City Government of Dagupan , City Waste

Management and Barangay Malued creates an avenue to solve the existing problem of

waste particularly the food waste coming from the City Market.

they are afraid to mingle with other people, lack of self-confidence and more. Along

To improve the quality of life and standards of living of the target audience, UL

Enactus always accounts for the results of the needs assessment. In addition, the
projects and activities to be implemented are carefully analyzed and scheduled so that

the desired results can be achieved at the conclusion of the project.

For this reason, the Team anchored the _____ project on a three-pronged

objective, to wit:
Objective 1: Partnership with the City Waste Management

The Team partnered with the City Waste management thru the office of the City
Government of Dagupan to allow us to acquire the biodegradable waste coming from

the City Market and transfer to the target community where the conversion of waste to
finished products completed.

Objective 2: Provision of Alternative Livelihood Mechanism

As a result of the careful analysis of the triple bottom line, the Team instituted the
provision of alternative livelihood mechanism as its second objective. This objective is
set to provide these women and their families additional source of income while the

Team, in partnership with various cause-oriented groups, is on the process of arranging

the market strategy of the business.

The biodegradable waste from the market will be transport to the Barangay
Malued where the beneficiaries are ready to convert it into a product which is organic

fertilizer. The object of the vermicomposter (women) is the production of vermicompost,

a special type of compost, with earthworms as secondary product. In vermicomposting,

the organic materials must be chosen with care or mixed in the right proportions and
the compost bed must be provided with optimum conditions for the growth and

reproduction of earthworms so that they will be more efficient in their feeding of the
organic materials and producing excreta called vermicast. Using the shredder, you will

no longer wait until 6 weeks to produce the vermicast because the 15 day period for
the waste to decompose will be skip. Therefore, more organic fertilizer will be produced

on sooner time and double income will be earner by the beneficiaries.

Objective 3: Entrepreneurial Skills Development

UL Enactus endeavoured to focus on strengthening and developing of the

entrepreneurial skills and knowledge of the people. The team believes that by
empowering the business skills of these women, they will be able to sustain the business

in which they are currently venturing.

In line with this objective, UL Enactus initiated actions by offering lectures and

seminars on finance and management techniques for them to run the business soundly.
These techniques consist of basic bookkeeping and production management concerns.

In addition, due to the fact that the vermin culture via shredder is a growing venture,
supply and demand analysis is likewise an issue to operate this alternative livelihood
mechanism well. In this regard, the Team likewise coached the beneficiaries about the
management of the products supply in order to meet the demands of its present and

potential consumers.

Lastly and in order to ensure the success of this new business created, UL Enactus

initiated a baseline study of market including SWOT analysis. UL Enactus, as well as the
entrepreneurs, can effectively develop strategies to improve the strengths, address

weaknesses, maximize opportunities and anticipate threats.

To improve the quality of life and standards of living of the people in need,

empowerment of the beneficiaries should be effectively done. In this phase, UL Enactus

brings to light the collaborative approach was employed thus zeroing on how well the

Team have transferred the necessary skills to the target people.

Considering the relevant economic, social and environmental factors and in-

depth analysis of the business and economic concepts and entrepreneurial approach, UL
Enactus is proud that indeed the organization had effectively empowered the people it

served.

Cup for third time following its outstanding achievement in 2011, 2012 and 2014 World
