1 INSTRUCTION ON HANDBOOK (INFORMATIVE)
1.1 FOREWORD
This manual shows how to use the VisualCrane OJ 5.07 Y2K software, studied by Gru
Comedil for Mitsubishi series GOT 940 data setting panel, which dialogues with Mitsubishi series
FX2N programmable logic control (PLC). The system displays the following values:

ç Weight on the hook

ç Height of the hook

ç Hook distance from the crane tower axis

ç Load moment

ç Jib slewing angle to the crane tower (Optional)

ç Working hours of the crane

ç Wind speed (Optional)

ç Scheduled maintenance interventions

It is also equipped with:

ç Programmable Digital outputs

ç Programmable Analog output (Optional)

ç Anticollision (Restriction of the working areas) (Optional)

The reliability of the values displayed depends on the setup correct execution; the system doesn’t
play an active role as regards the safety of the crane.

F Gru Comedil reserves the right to make changes to the specifications herein at any time without
prior notice.

1.2 WARNING INDICATIONS AND SYMBOLS

Particularly important sections in this manual are highlighted by the following symbols:

F NOTE: Special indications concerning the efficient application of the

crane.

CAUTION: Special indications of instructions/prohibitions for damage

prevention

WARNING: Indications of instructions/prohibitions for the prevention of

personal injury or extensive material damage.

MANDATORY AND ADVISORY RULES

Mandatory rules of this volume are characterized by use of the word shall. If a provision is of an
advisory nature, it is indicated by use of the word should and is a recommendation to be considered,
the advisability of which depends on the facts in each situation.

2 GENERAL INFORMATION
2.1 SCREEN GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION

“ICS” (Integrated Control System) uses “LCD” touch screen. It means one can interact with the
system just finger-touching the screen.

There are three types of working areas which are graphic designed on the screen:
1 ç Area set for activation of controls specific to the page displayed
(example: change of the unit of measurement system used or input of a variable)

2.1.2 Start Working Pages

There are two start working pages. When operating the system activation, the screen displays the
working page “ON” at the time of the last system shutdown.
There are no substantial differences between the two pages, except for “Jib slewing angle to the
crane tower” option included in one of them only (enabled if the system is equipped with the special
slewing sensor) and for the graphic representation.
The crane operator shall use these pages for activation of the controls needed. Namely:
1 ç Change of the unit of measurement (metric or U.S. customary units)

2 ç Change of the hoisting falls

3 ç Zero setting of the hook height (a facility for the operator, who can set up daily a new reference
spot after changing, maybe, the hooking device: chains, buckets, etc.)

F Warning! With the anticollision system “ON”, this function is inhibited.

Software_VC OJ 5.07 Y2K_000_e Page 8/37

When operating the crane, in the start working page a “hand” indicator appears in the “slewing”
area to show that a reference angle has not yet been established.

Operate the crane slewing. When the sensor will be near one of the three reading proximity switches
inside the lower slewing ring support, the “hand” indicator will disappear and the display will show
the slewing degrees.

3.2.7 Hour meter

The Hour meter environment allows to display the crane working hours. It consists of 6 (six)
pages: 5 (five) pages assigned to the working hours count and 1 (one) page (the sixth) to the
configuration of the custom-made page.
Move from one page to another by “Next” and “Previous” touch-keys; go back to “Menu” by
“Back” touch-key.
The first page shows the total working hour counters, which cannot be offset. These counters are
set going during the crane final inspection carried out at Comedil’s works. The starting date is
stored and legible on the screen.

The sixth page assigned to the configuration of the custom-made home page allows to use one of
the Logos stored by the system and to insert two strings of 38 alphanumeric characters/each.
The software basic release includes some Logos of Comedil’s main customers. The data base of
new releases shall be subject, of course, to further integrations. Anyhow, the user who wants to

3.2.8 Programmable digital outputs

Move from one page to another using “Next” and “Previous” touch-keys; go back to “Menu” by
“Back” touch-key.
There are 8 (eight) digital outputs, which can be configurated according to the special needs.
They are numbered Y0 to Y7.

Y0 to Y5 outputs are linked to some internal variables of the system. Namely:

Y0 to Y1 ç wind speed value
Y2 to Y3 ç load value
Y4 to Y5 ç load moment value
These outputs are set for activation when the threshold set is exceeded.

Each output allows the following working modes:

ç working output (“Enabled”)
ç non-working output (“Disabled”)
ç output “ON”, when the threshold is exceeded (“Positive logic”)
ç output constantly “ON” and “OFF”, when the threshold is exceeded (“Negative logic”)
ç output back to the original state, when the variable falls back within the threshold set (“Normal”)
ç output keeping the final state, until the main power is “OFF” (“Self-retaining”)

The arrow moves to the position of the actuated control.

F “Y0” page example is valid also for “Y1” to “Y5” pages.

On selecting the output working mode, enter the threshold value, the “ON” delay time (from threshold

the threshold set is exceeded.

At present, the following screens are available:

No. 301 No. 302

No. 303 No. 304

No. 305 No. 306

F When one of the above alarm screens appears, you can go back to the start working pages by
finger-touching “Back” key. But, if the output connected to the alarm screen displayed is
“Self-retaining” type, you can only leave the screen by switching “OFF” the crane.

Y6 to Y7 outputs are bistable type.
The arrow moves to the position of the actuated control.

Y6 digital output

The output allows the following working modes:

ç working output (“Enabled”)
ç non-working output (“Disabled”)
ç working output with no link (“Indipendent”)

The output has the same characteristics of Y6, but other than Y6 output can be connected
simultaneously to Y1-Y3-Y5.

3.2.9 Programmable analog output (Optional)
“ICS” system allows the connection of a special digital instrument for the remote display of one of
the following specific function at a time:
1 - Weight of the load hanging from the hook “Load”
2 - Load moment “Moment”
3 - Wind speed “Anemometer”
4 - Position of the jib trolley off the tower “Range”
5 - Hook height off the ground “Height”
6 - Jib slewing angle to the crane tower “Slewing angle”

Select the required function for remote display e by finger-touching “Configure output” key and
make sure the arrow moves to the proper window on the screen.
The output range varies from 0 to 250 points (0 to 10 Vdc).
For the correct instrument calibration, enter 0 as “Minimum value” and the rated value equivalent
to 10 Vdc (250 points) as “Maximum value” (these values shall refer to the specific function selected).

Example

enter 0 as “Minimum value” and 15,000 as “Maximum value” .

3.2.10 Diagnostic

The “Diagnostic” environment includes two pages.

Move from one page to another using “Next” and “Previous” touch-keys; go back to “Menu” by
“Back” touch-key.
The first page shows some system flags of the “PLC” and of the data setting panel.
The second page shows, instead, the values of some “PLC” internal record books.
Referring to the “Silver Book” and “Golden Book” manuals from MITSUBISHI, you can diagnose
failures or malfunctionings of the system.
In case the backup battery of the “PLC” or of the data setting panel is getting used up, the system
will automatically display the first page and point out the state of the battery itself.
The first page also allows the digital activation of the “Stop” and “Run” controls of the “PLC”, thus
avoiding the manual opening of the “PLC” box when reactivating the system in case of failure.

F Warning windows for scheduled maintenance

The system automatically displays some screens of scheduled maintenance, reminding the crane
operator of some recommended interventions or inspections to be carried out.
