1. SERVICE PRECAUTIONS
1.1 SERVICE PRECAUTIONS
A

1. You should conform to the regulations govering the product (safety, radio and noise, and other regulations),
and should keep the safety during servicing by following the safety instructions described in this manual.
2. Be careful about an internal sharp edge.
3. Be careful in handling ICs. Some ICs such as MOS type are so fragile that they can be damaged by
electrostatic induction.
4. Be careful in handing made from metal parts. There might be burr at the edge of it.
5. DEMO MODE is activated by Default Setting.
Keys other than followings are not accepted under DEMO MODE operation.
[SRC], [ESC] and [POWER] (However, POWER being OFF in case of POWER Key.)

B Conduct performance confirmation after releasing DEMO MODE operation temporarily.

How to perform temporary releasing

DEMO operation is released temporarily with [SRC] or [ESC] Key on Main Body Key (or on Remote Controller) and
normal operation becomes possible.

How to make DEMO MODE to be OFF (There are two ways, (1) and (2))
DEMO MODE under operation
(1) Turn ACC from OFF to ON. This makes DEMO setting to be OFF.
(2) Temporarily release DEMO MODE (by pressing [SRC] or [ESC] Key) and change setting of DEMO in GENERAL
from setting menu by changing ON to OFF.

6. Two kinds of resetting are available
1) Turn over the Detach Panel and press RESET Button at Central Part.
Without entire initialization.
Microcomputer restarting (emergency resetting at function trouble) .
Please carry it out when updating MCU software.
2) Perform [Default Setting] initialization in Setting
Perform product initialization except a part of items.
Please carry it out when updating MPEG software.
7. Any component parts in the DVD Mechanism Unit of this model can not be supplied.
If you need to replace any parts in the DVD Mechanism Unit, replace whole of DVD Mechanism Unit.

1.2 NOTES ON SOLDERING

For environmental protection, lead-free solder is used on the printed circuit boards mounted in this unit.
Be sure to use lead-free solder and a soldering iron that can meet specifications for use with lead-free solders for repairs
accompanied by reworking of soldering.

Compared with conventional eutectic solders, lead-free solders have higher melting points, by approximately 40 C.
Therefore, for lead-free soldering, the tip temperature of a soldering iron must be set to around 373 C in general, although
the temperature depends on the heat capacity of the PC board on which reworking is required and the weight of the tip of
the soldering iron.

Compared with eutectic solders, lead-free solders have higher bond strengths but slower wetting times and higher melting
temperatures (hard to melt/easy to harden).

The following lead-free solders are available as service parts:

Parts numbers of lead-free solder:
GYP1006 1.0 in dia.
F GYP1007 0.6 in dia.
GYP1008 0.3 in dia.

3. BASIC ITEMS FOR SERVICE

6.1 SOFTWARE VERSION INFORMATION DISPLAY
Step 1 Into "SETTING" menu A
Enter into "SETTING" menu by press "SETUP" key of the RCU or long press "SEL" key of the panel.
If Demo mode runs, please press "ESC" key. ( RCU or Panel key)
*Note RCU = Remote control unit
If Demo-mode runs, it cannot go into the "SETTING" menu.
Please press the "ESC" key and cancel Demo-mode.

Step 2
Press "5" --> "4" --> "3" --> "2" by numeric keys on the RCU.

6.2 SOFTWARE VERSION UP METHOD

A 1. Composition of firmware used for the product

About firmware, three kinds of firmware shown below exist.

1 "MPEG" firmware ----- DISC control and Decoding program

( Including DivX part )

2 "MCU" firmware ----- Product system , Tuner and EQ part program

3 "BT" firmware ----- BT function program

* Only the product which has BT function has this firmware.

The whole kind, upgrade of each firmware writes each firmware in a USB device, and performs it.
Although the firmware of two kinds is written in the same USB device, only upgrade of one kind of firmware
can be performed.

2. Firmware upgrade method A

Case 1
Version up of "MPEG" firmware

Step 1 Prepare USB device for Upgrade

The MPEG firmware named "8202grom.bin " is written in a USB device.
When you write in the USB device, please do not prepare a folder but write in directly
under the device.
A common file name is used by all the models.
In a file name, it cannot judge in the firmware for which products.
Please be careful.

Step 2 Please turn on a product and connect to a product the USB device prepared by "Step1."
The following display appears and upgrade of firmware starts.
Example of a display

The time of upgrade is about 70 seconds.

Caution ! !
While you are upgrading firmware, please do not turn OFF the power supply of a product.
There is a case where firmware will not be written in completely and a product will not start.

Step 3 Completion of upgrade of firmware will perform a reboot automatically.

It becomes the display of following "Radio." D
Please disconnect the USB device.

Step 4 Initialization of the firmware

Enter into "SETTING" menu by press "SETUP" key of the CRU or long press "SELL" key of the panel.

Please operate a cursor key and choose "Default Settings" of the "General" tag.
Do you want to use default setting? is displayed.
Please choose and perform "YES."
It reboots automatically.

Please check the section of "6.1 SOFTWARE VERSION INFORMATION DISPLAY".
If the used version of firmware is displayed, it means that upgrade was performed correctly.
