According to the travelers guide to Spain, Spain's Moorish
heritage takes three forms:classic "Almohad" Moorish buildings
and craft; Mozarab architecture, created by Christians living in
Moorish Spain, producing "Christian" art and architecture in a
Moorish style; and Mudejar architecture created by muslims in
Moorish tradition but used for christian Patrons after the
Christian Reconquest.

Famous examples of
Moorish Architecture

According to John Noble reporting for Islamic Arts and

Architecture, the Mezquita was originally composed of 1,293
columns. Less than a century after it was built, the Cördoba
caliphate collapsed and the Medina Azahara was wrecked. The
Medina Azahara has been reconstructed by various materials
from other collapsing or destroyed mosques. The columns are
made of jasper, onyx, marble and granite.

The Cordoba is the second largest mosque in the world.

Completed in the tenth century, the mosque was one of the
greatest jewels of Islamic architecture, with its intricate
stonework and plasterwork, and vaults supported on a forest of
over eight-hundred stone columns.
The Alhambra was built in 899 in Granada, in
purpose of completing the fortress complex of
three parts, the alcazaba (military residential
citadel), the alcázar (the palace) and the medina
(the city). In the middle ages the Alhambra was
the residence of the muslim rulers of Granada
and their court.

The marquetry ceiling of the Alhambra’s Salon

de Comares employs more than 8000 tiny
wooden panels, geometric patterns, arcs and
calligraphy are ubiquitous.

toda la Alhambra hay caligrafía islámica de
refranes proverbios y valores.

"Rejoice in good fortune, because Allah

helps you," and "Be sparse in words and
you will go in peace."
