b) A 4 pole DC machine has 51 slots and each slot contains 20 conductors. The machine
has a useful flux of 0.007wb and runs at 1500 rpm. Find the induced emf, if the
machine is wave wound and lap wound? (6M)
(OR)
5 a) Define commutation? Explain how to improve commutation by
i) high resistance ii) interpoles. (6M)
b) Two shunt wound d.c generators are connected in parallel to supply aload of 5000A.
Each machine has armature resistance of 0.03 ohms and a field resistance of 60 ohms,

machines supply? (6M)
UNIT III
6 a) what are the factors controlling the motor speed, discuss the various speed control
methods used for DC series motors? (6M)
