PRIMER PUNTO
Find the lightest W-shape for the simply supported beam if the working stress
in bending is 18 ksi.
1. What is the actual maximum bending stress in the beam selected?
2. What is the new section modulus?.

SEGUNDO PUNTO
The cast iron inverted T-section supports two concentrated loads of magnitude
P. The working stresses are 48 MPa in tension, 140 MPa in compression, and
30 MPa in shear.
1. Show that the neutral axis of the cross section is located at d=48.75 mm
and that the moment of inertia of the cross-sectional area about this axis
is I = 11.918x106 mm4 .
2. Find the maximum allowable value of P.

TERCER PUNTO
A beam is to be made of steel that has an allowable bending stress of σAllow =
160 M P a.

1. Select an appropriate S shape that will carry the loading shown in Figure.
Select a new shape if necessary.

2. Replace the before selection whit the appropiate W shape that will carry
the loading. Select a new shape if necessary.

CUARTO PUNTO
A beam is to be made of steel that has an allowable bending stress of σAllow =
24 ksi and an allowable shear stress of τAllow = 14.5 ksi Select an appropriate
W shape that will carry the loading shown in Figure. Select a new shape if
necessary.
