RESULTS

In the 150 patients reviewed in our study 72 were males and 78 females. The controlled
group of diabetes which was HbA1C 7 or less than seven were 64 in number labelled as
Group A and uncontrolled group with HbA1C more than 7 were 86 in number labelled as
Group B. Of the 64 patients in Group A 30 were males and 34 females and in Group B 42
male and 44 females shown in Table 2.

Table 1 show the association of Platelet indices within two groups of controlled and
uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. The mean HbA1C in the control groups was 6.5627 and that
in uncontrolled group was 9.1977 with a mean RBS/FBS of 163.30 and 243.50 respectively.
It was also found in our study that mean age of group was less i.e. 48.82 years as compared to
the uncontrolled group which was 53.58. The mean values of platelet indices, MPV,
Platelet Crit, PDW were higher in the uncontrolled group while the Platelet Count was low in
the uncontrolled group.

Complication rate was much higher in the uncontrolled group as compared to the controlled
groups. It was 68.6% of nephropathy in the uncontrolled group and 21.84% of Nephropathy,
17.18% Neuropathy 15.62% .

The results described in 7,8,9 tables show significant changes in the value of MPV, PDW,
PLCR in patients with complication of nephropathy neuropathy and retinopathy.

The platelet indices were studied based in the average range and it was found that MPV was
above the average range in 86 patients, Platelet Crit in 88 patients and PDW in 39 and PLCR
in only patients as seen in table 3.

After applying the Karl Pearson correlation it was found that MPV, PDW had a significant.
P value in the controlled group A as compared to the uncontrolled group B while Platelet Crit
and platelet count were insignificant in both the groups.
