Items required
1. Sruva (small spoon) -preferably wood

Havir dravya in ganapathi homa is made by mixing the coconut pieces with jaggery, pieces of
sugar cane, unhusked rice, sesame seeds, pieces of lemon, honey & ghee. puffed rice,
chashews, raisins, pomegranate, kapitha fruits, modakas, etc can be also added. . The
consistency has to be solid. Mix them well. Arbitrarily divide into 4 portions. One portion
remove and keep for naivedya remaining 3 portions are for homa.
Like in the case of srichakra puja install a samanyarghya. Sit in front of homakunda, perfom
thathvachamaniya, pranayama with ganapathi mula manthra and chant guru paduka twice using
mrigi mudra in the head. Take 4 darbha each and place like seen in the diagram (1) on four
sides of the homa kunda.
Performer will sit in the west side facing east, and towards the east south corner keep a lamp
lit, you can place the ganapathi idol/yanthra also there. Before the start of the homa perform a
Panchopachara puja to Ganapathi yanthra/idol. If not available invoke ganapathi to the lamp
and perform the panchopachara to the lamp.

Preparation of Homakunda
Take one darbha and draw the following mandala inside the kunda dipping in samanyarghya.
Then place the darbha in the middle and wash hands and then throw the darbha away to your
left.
Take akshatha and put in the middle of the agnikunda, where some wood is kept. Take agni in
a spoon and chant Om bhUr bhuvassurom and put in the agni kunda. In the spoon put some
akshatha and water from samanyarghya and keep on the opposite side of homakunda.
Installing Darvi
Take the sruva and juhu rub it with darbha chanting mula manthra. Show it in the fire and
then rub again. Do it three times. Then keep the sruva down and put the darbha in the fire and
then wash hands.
Ajya samskara.
Ghee is essential for all homa. Along with that we will have other materials also for homa.
Keep all the materials used to be used in homa besides you. Ghee to be poured in a cup and
keep in front of you. Cut two pieces of darbha head and put inside ghee, put few akshatha.
Take few darbha grass and lit in the fire, along with fire, protect the ghee and all materials
with this fire by waving it three times in round. (this is called paryagni). . Add some
akshatha, and take the kurcha in hand. Keeping the pavithra side (head) to right hands, using
two hands act asif you are filtering the water. Do it one up one down one up (three times)
then along with pavithra, lift the cup up to your nose.
In the mind remember your guru who is brahman to the homa, view agni with a pleasant
mind and keep in lifting up and keep the ghee back to your front. Then do not move the ghee
vessel. Take kurcha, untie the pavithra knot and keep in the fire. Wash hands. During all
these process chant the mula manthra.
By this time the fire is lit up nicely and you should have a good agni. Put enough wood to the
fire so that the flames and lit up.
Keeping paridhi
Take 4 equal sized samith, keep like shown in the First diagram (big arrows) one to front, two
on sides, and one each on the opposite in upright position. This is keeping the boundaries.
Your opposite is the eternal worlds, it has no limits hence they are kept upright.
Pray to Agni
Chatvari shringa trayosya paada dwe sirshe sapta hastaasosya,
Tridhaa baddho vrishabho roraaveeti maho devo martyaagum aaviveshaa/
Eeshaa hi devaah praadishonu sarvaah purvo hi jaatassa u garbhe antaah,
sa vijaayaamanassaa janishyamaanaaha prattyan mukhaa
stishthati vishvato mukhaaha - praang mukho Deva maamaabhimukho bhava
Dikpalaka puja
Chanting this place akshatha and flowers to the fire.
On eight corners of the homa kunda, pray to dikpalakas using akshatha.
Om indraya nama om agnaye nama om yamaya nama om nirarthaye nama om varunaya nama
om vayave nama om somaya nama om eesanaya nama
Middle – om agnaye nama, Om aathmane nama
In the mind remember prajapathi, take ghee in sruva take ghee and then sacrifice to the fire
from right upper corner to the left lower corner (1) – Prajapathaye svaha – Prajapathaye idam
na mama
Then take ghee again and from left up corner to right down corner sacrifice it (2) Indraya
svaha – indraya idam namama

By doing so we have established a base for the devatha to come and sit.
Then install the devatha in the fire. Like we have installed in the lamp/yanthra/idol before.
Offer Padya- Arghya – Achamaniya – Gandha – pushpa – dhupa – dipa and naivedya.
Here naivedya should be the mix of havir dravya we have made with coconut.
1. Do minimum 8 times ghee ahuthi with the maha ganapathi moola manthra chanting
svaha in the end
2. With main dravya continue ahuthi by chanting moola mantra – 8 times (the dravya
should be completely offered keeping the 1/4th which was removed earlier
3. Using Durva leaves, two each dipped in ghee mula manthra ahuthi 8 times
4. Unhusked rice 8 times
Manthra: “utthishta purusha haritha pimgala lohithaksha sarvabhishtam dehi dehi
daapaya daapaya svaha” – mahaganapathaya idam na mama:
5. Take the coconut shell from which the coconut for the homa was used. Coconut shell
has two parts, one with thri nethra other without.
1. With trinethra coconut shell : Jathavedase sunavama soma marathiyatho nithahadi
veda sanaHparishadathi durgani visva naveva sindhum durithathyagni svAhA
2. Using the other shell: Dhruvasu thvasu kshithikshu kshiyantho vyasmath pasam
varuno mumochath apo vanvana aditherupasthad yooyam paathaH svasthibhiH
sadA naH svAhA
6. 8 times with mula manthra - ghee
Once everything is over, take ghee again and offer with both hands
Agnaye svishta krithe svaha agni svishta krithe idam na mama
Utharamga:
Using sruva ouch all paridhi. Then take paridhis with hand, and offer the paridhis to fire. Fold
your hands then touch the floor.
Namo rudraya pasupathaye svaha rudraya pasupathaye idam na mama (wash your hands)
Perform purnahuthi
Place the purnahuthi material touching with sruva and stand and offer to the fire.
Then take the ghee cup and keep sruva in right hand and pour entire ghee to fire
Saptha the aghne samidha: saptha jihva: saptharshaya: saptha dhama priyani saptha hothra
saptha dha thvaa yajanthi sapthayonoraapruna sva ghrithena svahaa – agnaye sapthavatha
idam na mama
Om Itah purvam prana buddhi deha dharmadhikaratah jagrat svapna sushuptyavasthasu
manasa vaca karmana hastabhyam padbhyam udarena sishna yonya yatsmrtam yaduktam
yatkrtam tatsarvam brahmarpanam bhavatu swaha
Do pranayama with the mula manthra. And do paricheshana like we have done in beginning
Adithena maggum sthha: anumathe na maggum stha: sarasvathe na maggum sthaa: deva
savitha prasavee
Perform a panchopachara to the devatha. – in this panchopachara, offer the 1/4th of the homa
dravya as naivedya.
