The article “Making Energy Clean, Safe, and Affordable” by David Blittersdorf, the

president of the American Wind Energy Association explains the trouble with wind power and

how it has progressed throughout the past 4 decades. The amount of energy cost from wind has

dropped more than half of its original price in those decades. The author explains the United

States dependence on foreign countries for oil and what will happen when those resources are

depleted. The author provides facts and statistics to reasons why wind energy is promising. He

also claims that alternative energy will create jobs and keep the money that comes from wind

local.

The purpose of this article is to show its audience through studies and statistics that the

only way to continue to power our vast population that only continues to grow is through

renewable sources of energy. This is a reliable source because it has been reviewed by Sinclair.

Critics of renewable energy argue that wind is unreliable and disrupts migration patterns. This

article will help me with my rebuttal against that claim.

The article “Counterpoint: Alternative Energy Won’t Solve All the Demands of World

Energy Consumption” by Jeffrey Bowman and Marcus Griswold, argues that the consumption of

fossil fuels is efficient and reliable. Their solution to the exhaustible resources of fossil fuels is

implementing conservation methods. The authors argue that there is not enough energy through

renewable sources to support the needs of the world. Bowman and Griswold state that the jobs

currently held with fossil fuels will deplete and leave millions out of work. They also argue that

the cost of renewable energy is too great for our nation.

The purpose of this article was to inform its audience that there are some issues with the

use of renewable energy and that conserving methods is sufficient enough for CO2 emissions to

decrease. This source is reliable because it came from Sinclair’s library. I will be able to use this

information as an opposing argument and refute that the science behind renewable sources can

sustain the energy demands of the world. The critics also agree that fossil fuels are depleting at

an increased rate. I will argue how further research for more effective energy is needed along

with conservation methods.

This educational film explains the importance of energy and how fossil fuels have played

a vital role in our world. It also explains the process and the amount of time it takes to form coal

and petroleum. It talks about the cost, benefits, and environmental impacts that both renewable

and non-renewable sources have. The geologist in this video claim that further research could

work out all the issues with renewable sources and could potentially be our main source of

energy.

The purpose of this film was to show people that a world with green energy can power

the world and create an ecofriendly environment. I can use the information from this film to

rebuttal what the critics of renewable energy validate as reasons to not explore alternative

sources. I can also use this source to aid in my main argument that fossil fuels are going to be

depleted and if we do not find an alternative way to power the future.

"Impending United States energy crisis" by Robert Hirsch is an article that addresses the

energy crisis that we have seen in the past and how much we have come to rely on foreign

countries for our energy needs. Hirsch states that the worlds finite sources are depleting and

prices for oil will skyrocket like the Arab oil embargo in 1973. Hirsch explains how much

money we are sending overseas to import oil and if we invested in other alternative energy

sources our money would stay within our boarders and the national debt would go down in doing

so.
Nugent 4

The purpose for this article is inform the public on how much money we are sending to

other countries to meet our energy demands. The author wants us to consider what will happen

when our fossil fuels are depleted. This is a reliable source because it come from Sinclair’s

databases. I will be able to use this information in my paper to persuade my audience that

independence from foreign countries alone is enough to explore renewable energy.

The article "Renewable Energy Sources Benefit Health, Climate, and the Economy."

written by the UCS (Union of Concerned Scientists) which was originally published in

2012 and updated in 2016. This article is an informative viewpoint on why renewable energy is a

more logical alternative compared to finite sources. The UCS provides the numbers behind the

amount of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and compares those numbers to the emissions that

are generated from renewable sources. They also touch on the damaging effects of CO2 and how

switching our source of energy would improve those effects. The UCS provides statistics on the

amount of jobs that are already created with renewable sources and how much more they can

create.

The purpose of this article is to inform the reader of all the pros that come with choosing

renewable energy. The UCS also states the counterargument and refute those claims with

evidence showing otherwise. This is a credible source because it has been peer reviewed by

Sinclair. I will be able to use this source to explain that renewable energy has irrefutable benefits

that should be explored.

The article “Point: The World Must Actively Explore Alternative Sources of Energy” by

Alex Rich and David Morley explains that the use of fossil fuels is harmful to our world and an

alternative source of energy is vital for our planet. It talks about global warming and how carbon

and other pollutants from fossil fuels are a contributing factor to climate change. This article

claims that funding for research can produce clean reliable and efficient energy that can meet all

the worlds energy demands. The authors provide several examples of different countries that

have adopted renewable energy and is flourishing in doing so.

The purpose for this article is give the reader background information on both renewable

and nonrenewable sources. This is a reliable source because it came from Sinclair’s database.

This will be helpful in my main arguments as to why renewable energy is a better option for my

community. I will be able to use the pros of renewable energy to make my stance on why I chose

renewable sources as the better option.

The article "Counterpoint: Claims about the Effectiveness of Wind Power Are

Exaggerated" by George Wright and Marcus Griswold states that wind turbines cannot generate

enough electricity. The author also argues that wind has far too many negative environmental

impacts. While all renewable and nonrenewable sources have pros and cons, critics believe that

the risk with renewable sources are too extreme. This article explains that wind energy will

disrupt migration patterns and cause certain species to go extinct from getting caught in the

turbines.

The purpose of this article was to inform the readers that renewable energy has many

drawbacks and they are too severe to pursue. I will provide factual statistics and expert opinions

from my other sources to prove that the benefits indeed outweigh the risk. This will be one of the

issues that I refute with evidence to why wind energy is a good alternative source. This will help

my efforts in appealing to my audience through ethos.
