Altered Reality Painting Assignment

Assignment:
• Imagine a moment in your life that made a large impact (birth of a sibling, achievement of a
personal goal, the meeting of a beloved, feared or hated person in your life etc.) and then
image a world where that event never occurred. Paint your future without that said event.
How would it be different from your life now?
• Use heightened colors and direct symbols to represent feelings and imagery. Use your Sur-
realism/Fauvism worksheet for reference
• You must use AT LEAST 10 of the 24 watercolor techniques used on your Watercolor Ex-
perimental Exercise sheet in your final painting!
• Create an interesting composition that will tell a story
• Make sure to do your planning pages and to complete you Graphic Organizer BEFORE you
start your painting. Make sure you bring them to class every work day.
Mediums:
• Watercolor paints will be used for the assignment. (I will provide the paints)
• Similarly to the Watercolor Exercise, you may use some colored pencils, pen or ink, or pas-
tel within the painting
Sizes:
• Your Watercolor paper must be at least 9”x12” (I will provide the paper)
• Make sure to choose a paper size that works best for your composition. Don’t be afraid to
go Big!!

Incorporate at least one mythological creature or being within your painting. It must correlate
with the symbolic meaning and emotion of your painting.
