Gelert

There was a prince called Lewellyn. His uncle gave him a hunting dog called Gelert.
One day, the prince went hunting with his friends and all his dogs, but Gelert refused to
go because he could smell the danger nearly. Llewellyn was furious. When he returned
the castle, Gelert was happy. But when the prince saw Gelert, the dog was smeared with
blood. Llewellyn thought that Gelert had killed his child because they used to play
together and Gelert was wild. Therefore, the prince went to his baby´s room and found
blood everywhere and coulden´t see his child. The prince was desperate and because of
that he drew his sword and killed the dog. Then, Llewellyn heard his baby cry and He
saw a dead Wolf behind the cradle . The baby was safe and the prince realized that
Gelert had killed the Wolf, not the child. Llewellyn felt very sad and as a compensation
he dug a grave outside the castle and built a pile of stones and on them he put a plaque
for every passerby to read: “to gelert, a faithful dog”.

Dad´s blessing

There was a young man that was getting ready to graduate from collage. He had
admired a sport car in a dealer´s showroom, so he told his father about it because he
could affort it for him. On the morning of his graduation his father told him that he was
proud of him and how much he loved him. Then he gave a gift to the young man. It was
a Bible. The young man was disapointed and he raised his voice to his father and left the
house in anger because he wanted the sport car. So his father felt very sad. Many years
later the young man was succesful in business and had a family. One day he thought to
visit his father bacause they had not seen since the day of his graduation. But he
received a telegram which told him that his father had died and he had left all his
possessions for his son. So he went to his father´s house and felt sadness and he found
the Bible that his father had given him years ago. He oponed it and a car key dropped
from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer´s name and had the day of his
graduation. So he realized that had made a mistake because his father had bought the car
he had desired.

The happy prince

There was a statue of the happy prince on a tall column hight above the city. It was
admired because it was gilded all over, with the leaves of gold, 2 sapphires for eyes and
a red ruby glowed in his sword. One night, a Swallow flew over the city to join the
other Swallows at pyramids. He flew all day anda t night he arrived in a city and he put
up on the statue. Befote he fell asleep a drop of water fell on him. He thought that it was
raining although he Stars were shining. But the second drop of water fell on him, so he
decided to look for a good chimney because the statue couldent Project him from the
rain, but a third drop fell on him and he looked up and he saw that the statue was crying.
So he asked the statue who he was. The statue answered him that he was the happy
prince. The statue told him that when he was alive he lived in a palace, he had lots of
friends and he was happy. But in his garden there was a high wall
And he was never interested in to know what happened beyond it. However, now he
was died and he could see the ugliness and all the misery of the city, so he felt sad. Then
he told Swallow about a poor woman that was dressmaker and he had a boy who was
ill. Because the statue wanted to help them but he couldent move, he asked the swallow
to stay with him one night longer and be his Messenger. The swallow felt sorry and
aceppted to stay with him. So the statue told the swallow to pluck out the ruby from his
sword and take it to the woman´s house. The swallow did it and when he was arrived
there he saw the boy lying and he flew around the boy´s bed fanning the boy with his
wings. Then he felt better and the swallow felt good because he had gone a good action.
The next day the swallow told the statue that he was about to fly to Egypt, but the statue
told him that there was a young man in his garret. He needed to end a play but he
couldent because he was starving and he was cold. So the statue told the swallow to stay
with him one night longer and pluck out one of his sapphires and take it to the young
man. First, the swallow didn´t want to do that but then he did it. When the young man
woke up he found the sapphire. Then the swallow had to fly to egypt. Moreover, the
snow was comino. But the statue told the swallow that there was a girl that sold match-
boxes but they had fallen in the gutter and they were spoiled. She hended to take Money
to him house or his father would beat her, The statue told swallow to pluck out his other
sapphire and take it to the girl but the swallow refused to do it because the statue World
be blind. However, the statue told him to do as he command him and the swallow gave
the sapphire to the girl. So the swallow decided to stay with the prince always. The
swallow told him stories that he had seen in stranges lands and the statue told him to fly
over the city and tell him what he had seen. The swallow flew over the city and told him
that the rich enjoyed theris days in their houses and the poor people wew sitting in their
gates and there were poor children starving and they were cold. The statue told the
swallow to take off all his gold and take it to the poor. The swallow didn´t want to do ir
but he did it until the statue looked sad and grey. Then the snow came and the swallow
was grew colder but he refused to leave the prince. The swallow felt that he was dying
so he told the prince that he was going t odie and he kissed the prince and fell died. At
that moment the leaden Heart of the happy prince broke into 2. The next morning the
mayor was walking in the square below the statue with the town launcillours and they
saw the statue and they said that he looked ugly. So they decided to pull down the
statue. They also saw the dead swallow. They melted the statue in a furnace but the
leader heart wouldent melt in a furnace, so they threw it on a dust-heap where the dead
swallow way lying.
God tol done of his angel to bring him the 2 most precious things in the city. So the
angel brought him the leader heart and the dead swallow.

The tale

There was 3 drukards that wanted to find death bacause Death had killed their friend.
So they wanted to punish him. One day, they met an old man that told them that Death
was waiting for them in the wood near the oak tree. So they went to the wood but they
didn´t find Death. However, they found a treasure and inmediately they forgot their
dead friend. They though that they coulden´t return to the town with the treasure
because people would think that they were thieves. So the decided that one of them
should g oto the town to buy bread and wine and the other 2 of them would guard the
treasure in the wood. Then the youngest drunkard was the changad and had to go to the
town, so he started his journey. Then one of the wickedest told the other one to stab the
youngest drunkard when he returned and keep the treasure for them selves. Meanwhile,
the youngest drunkard thought to get rid of the 2 drunkards and keep the treasure for
himself. Then, he decided to poison them. So he bought 3 bottles of wine and poison
and put i ton 2 of the bottles of wine. When he returned to the wood, the wickedest
drunkards stabbed him in the back. Then they drank wine from one of the poisoned
bottles to celebrate and they died. Finally, they met Death.
Stitches

There was a boy called Miguel. He was 7. He was a brave boy because he was a Maya.
He worked in the Maquila. It was a big metal building. Miguel felt weak in the noise of
the sewing machines. Sometimes he fell asleep in his job and his boss, Sr. Costas,
shouted at his mother called Mechita. His father and his big brother Tonio (twelve and
he used a machete) had gone to the plantation. His grandmother called Mamá Lala,
worked as a servant in the Sr. Costas´s residence. Miguel and his family lived in a small
house by the river. Sr. Costas had given them the house for a little Money, so Sr. Costas
took the payments from Miguel´s parents salaries. Sr. Costas was the owner of the
plantation and the general store El quetzal. The factory received lots of trucos and one
day a big truck with red t-shirts arrived. The workers had to assemble them neatly fold
them and pack them to be sent to places with people bough them for their children.
Miguel stitched label with the name of his country in the incide of the t-shirts. He
coulden´t read the labels because he had not had time to start school. The t-shirt had on
their front a funny Mouse, big black eras and a smile. Miguel liked them so much, so he
put a secret mark in one of them and said to himself that that would be his t-shirt
forever. Six months later the rainy season came and one day the water came down from
the hills and Miguel and his mother ran out the house to the paved road wich was higher
than the village. The water destroyed everything and the maquila too. Sr. Costas had
bough some food but it had not been enough. Then a big truck arrived with people that
spoke different language and they had brought boxes with food, clothes, medicaments,
etc. When the miguel´s mother saw strangers helping the villagers to rebuild their
houses in saber place, she felt that they would be right. Then, a lady gave miguel a big
box and he found on the botton of it the t-shirt with his secret mark and he know that he
would be right.
